why do television networks like to advertise during a program?

it is very annoying when these things pop up during the show any reason why they do this

Because so many viewers now have DVR's or Tivo's they know that we fast forward through the commercials. So they sneak them in during the program where we are sure to see them. This is so annoying as they just seem to get bigger and bigger, taking up half the screen.

Yes, that's how they pay for the show.
Nothing happens for free, look at all the ads on Yahoo.
