No brainer - Jack Dempsey for me is probably top 5 greatest heavyweight of all time. He was exceptional against opponents that wanted to stand toe-to-toe... look at his fights against the then champion Jess Willard & the tough tough Luis Firpo from Argentina. The latter fight is regarded as having one of boxings greatest rounds whereby Jack was knocked virtually out of the ring have floored his opponents several times. In the Williard fight he broke Jess's jaw & knocked out a tooth or two with a single blow - Dempsey used a side to side movement making him hard to combo punch + the fact he crouched as well would have made Marcianos trade mark hurt the arms to drop the guard very difficult. Both weighed fairly similar, Dempsey could take a punch & get up but so could Marciano albeit to a lesser degree. Most people will cite the fact that Rocky went unbeaten in his career but then again he fought mostly no-hopers & then past their best fighters in defending the title + a big hand from the Mafia.

Dempsey is probably the toughest heavyweight to ever step in the ring, this with his hunger would have secured a 7th round win.

pp - Harry Greb was the toughest son 0f a b***h to step in the ring

Thats one you dont wanna bet money on.
But i would have to go with dempsey. Even if dempsey didnt hit hard he still would have been great. ( but he did hit as hard as h.e.l.l ).
In his prime ( watching quality film ) Dempsey was FAST with his hands and feet. He stayed on his toes and could cover a lot of distance quickly. He rolled his shoulders, ducked punches slipped punches with great agility, and excelled in bobbing and weaving.
Also, Dempsey could knock your teeth out from distance, or pulverize you on the inside with only 12- 14 inch punch range, busting ribs ( remember Willard ? ) He could fight like nobody when in the trenches. And remember, when Jack was hurt he was as dangerous as h.e.l.l ( like a wounded lion )
When in a head-to-head brawl , no one beat Jack in that type of fight.
So, with all this Dempsey was such a force he took advantages away from oppoenents.
He was faster than Rocky. Moved better. Hit harder ( i feel ) on the outside AND inside. Was a overall better puncher/boxer than Rocky It would be a complete package and a force the Rock had not come up against before. I think it only be a matter of time for the Rock begin to crumble.
( But, who knows ? )

My head says Rocky would win by KO in the later rounds, he was as hard as granite. But I'm a huge Dempsey fan so my heart says Jack in 2 rounds.

Dempsey would dominate Rocky. He was bigger, stronger, and just plain better at everything. Dempsey TKO late the overrated as hell Marciano.

The Rock. He'd bleed a lot, but Dempsey was not that good defensively. Marciano by KO.

Rocky would win probably by KO. He was a small heavyweight, but he used his size to his advantage. Jack would have a hard time hitting Rocky clean. Meanwhile, Rocky would be tagging him. Rocky in 10 rounds.

got to favour dempsey, as great a fighter as rocky was, rocky was carried by the mob.

Rocky fought very few opponants of true class at the time.
