Pretty soon everyone will be speaking Spanish. It is the closest thing to the native language of this land.

SURE DO! This is America, not Mexico. We speak ENGLISH in America. I never do business with people that only speak Spanish because I don't understand them. My clients ALL SPEAK ENGLISH! We will never loose business because we don't cater to the Spanish speaking public. (Financial planning, tax planning, divorce work - high net-worth people)
I do not speak any Spanish. I refuse to learn out of protest and I live in North San Diego country! If I am going to learn another language, which I do, it would be either French or American Sign Language.
BTW, it's very rude to speak Spanish in front of a group that mostly speak English. When you travel to another country, you learn the language! You don't force the country to change!
You state that the 14th amendment established the "constitutional basis for the educational rights of language minority students." WHERE DOES IT STATE THAT? What, it doesn't? gee!!!!
Actually the "Fourteenth Amendment - Rights Guaranteed Privileges and Immunities of Citizenship, Due Process and Equal Protection." It was regarding citizenship for former SLAVES, not illegal aliens. It has nothing to do with language or education! Do some research so you don't sound like an idiot!
BTW, the voters stopped bi-lingual education in California!!! Personally, I voted against the bi-lingual education because it's a waste of money and it doesn't work!.

My wife is Chinese...came here legally, learned the language, became a Naturalized citizen, joined the Navy, got a college degree, conducts all business in English, carries on personal conversation with friends and family in Chinese.
I agree, the more languages you know, the better adapt you can be to different circumstances.
However, this is America, and I would expect that if you choose to live here, you not only do your best to learn our language, but you respect the fact that there are legal roads to becoming a citizen, without copping an attitude. That will get you nowhere except maybe beat up.
ps: my wife HATED bilingual education in NY. She said it deprived her of the chance of being FORCED to speak English. Probably dealt her a severe handicap. Thankfully the Navy put her in an English language class to help improve her abilities.

I know a lot of Mexicans. They are lovely people. My guess is that because Mexico is such a big country with a strong culture that they are going to be particularly aware of their version of Spanish, sometimes to the exclusion of other nationalities where Spanish is spoken. This, by the way, occurs in a lot of other Spanish speaking cultures, so I say let's be patient with one another and try to see the best in each other and especially be open to learning from one another? Not that hard, eh?

I don't give a rat's a** what you think about the 14 th amendment or what rights you think it entitles you to, nor do I care what the law in California is. I don't do business with people who speak Spanish or any other language other than English and I don't employ nor contract with people who are not fluent in English. You got a problem with that? Go to hell back to Mexico if you do. (Where apparently none of them speak anything other than Spanish).

Maybe you missed the memo, but the US Congress just recently passed a law, stating that English is the official language of the US. Laws of the federal government are absolute, and nothing at the state level can violate any federal law.
It's just like when I visited Japan, Thailand, and other countries of SE Asia. They have their official language, and they can learn English as a courtesy, but they don't *have to* know English. Being in the US, you better learn to speak the language. I have a neighbor from Columbia, and he can barely speak English. He constantly tries to be neighborly, but speaks to me in Spanish! This is annoying, at best. And when I got places to go, it becomes a real pisser. Whatever country your in, be decent, and learn the local language. If you can't, then don't leave! That's why I stay mostly here.

well in 10 years 80% of California is going to be Mexicans at this rate.
It is very frustrating that they have all these spanish speaking bussinesses and stuff when this is America. We Americans speak English.
You don't see Germans, or Dutchs running bussinesses and speaking there native language. Yes it is great to know and fun to learn other languages. But if you can't speak English and moved to America to bring your ways, and heritage go back to south of the border.
it really bothers me and many many other people that Mexicans are pretty much going to take over the U.S.
We built that wall to keep illegal immigrants out.
People come here to be American not be Mexican but live in America.
Everyone else form different countries except the fact that your supposed to learn English, and become an American citizen, where as here you are stating that Mexicans are better and its our second language and they should be able to run bussiness speaking only spanish.
If you friggin live in America you shouldn't have to learn Spanish just to get around with daily life its an insult to Americans.

This is a very controvercial issue to talk about. I've read all of the comments here and I'm really disappointed in some of the answers I saw.
Those who think that this is your country and you want to kick the "illegals" out, are not correct in your statement. First of all this land was Mexico's land first. The soldiers fought and dies for it, yet it was taken away. DON"T SAY YOU FOUGHT AND DIED FOR SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T. Second of all you know who should have a right to really say something? Native Americans. They also fought and died for THEIR land yet it was also taken from them.
Those who say "illegeal" students are causing problems in the education system are WRONG!!!!!!! If you do your research correctly, All of the standardized test that students have to take like the Stanford Nine are not in Spanish for them, so they do learn the english language and score alot higher than the "legal students". As far as billingual education goes, teachers are not teaching academic classes in spanish, they are teaching in English. It's called an ESL program (ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE) Which means these kids are learning the language. DON'T BE IGNORANT BY SAYING YOU FUND THEIR EDUCATION BY PAYING YOUR TAXES AND THE "ILLEGALS" DON'T!!!!
As far as Taxes go, "ILLEGALS" DO PAY TAXES!!!
This might come to a shock to you but yep! They do. This is why they get a special number from the IRS to pay taxes and yet don't receive the benifits the "legals" do. SO NO the "illegals" are not taking your tax dollars, they are also contributing their part and not getting any benifits from it.
Lastly, lets talk about welfare. I'm not saying I have something against African Americans but really though, who are the crack mommas? Who are the ones who have lots of kids just to stay at home living off the government, getting a check every month for every child and spending it on their weaves and nails? Who are the ones who don't care if their children are going to school or are out in the street? I'm not saying Latins aren't on welfare but who is the Majority who is? At least LATINO LADIES go out and get a job as a maid, cleaning lady, babysitter, all of those hard jobs. Go down Sunset Blvd / Beverly Hills at around 3 or 4 pm, who will you see? All Latino workers, YES mostly "illegal" as you like to call them. Do you see any African American cleaning ladies at the bus stops or gardners or construction workers? NO YOU DON'T! Yeah the "illegals " work harder than most of the B/S talkers here. Go to the SKIDROW in DownTown L.A. How many hispanic bumbs do you see?
On Welfare, NO Taxes, and Problem in the Educational System by "illegals"?
Please, do your reasearch first or better yet go out there and take a look, then give a decent opinion. You don't have to learn the language, no one is making you, and too bad you can't get a better job because you aren't bilingual. Too bad, it just shows how much POWER the hispanic community is rising with.
Kick us out? Please! WE AIN'T GOIN' NO WHERE!!!

I prefer companies that speak English and go out of my way to do business with them. There is an on-line toy company where you do not have to press 1 for Spanish. I buy most of my kids toys through them.
We speak English here in America, I do not see ANY other races demanding that we have forms in their language and demand that we cater to them. THEY are trying to assimilate and become Americans unlike many from south of the border.
Thanks to the FLOOD of illegals in southern California I have to send my son to a private school. I live in a historical district in my city. My home is over 100 years old and fully restored. The people who live in this district have had to send their children to Private schools because out neighborhood is surrounded by smaller hoses and apartments. Our neighborhood school is 95% Hispanic (YES 95 FRICKEN %). Before we enrolled our first child in any school I went to the public school and obsereved the Kindergarten class and the 1st grade class. The teachers were manily speaking spanish. HOW in the hell is MY child suppose to get an education in an envirment like this. It seems to me that this is a little backwards. the teachers should be teaching in english and forsing the students to learn english, NOT the other way around.
My neighbor tried sending her 2 blonde haired blue eyed boys to this school, she thought it would be a good experience for them. The boys were tortured and made fun of on a daily basis. So you tell me WHO is raciest??

Conduct your business as you see fit. Teaching another language in school is not the problem. The problem is people coming here and demanding I learn their language when they should learn the language of the country the moved to. I do believe those laws are in place for legal citizens.

Yes, I have a problem with that.Real Americans who were born in a different country (I.E. legally) learn to speak English out of respect for their new country and also to fit in with everyone else. Language brings people together and not understanding a language can pull people apart.
