Blinds are #1. You can buy temporary ones at Home Depot or Lowe's or have real ones cut or off the shelf. We didn't get curtains for years until I was fed up and made them.

Ikea is great for lots of inexpensive decor and kitchen items. If there is not one in your area, go to Target, Wal Mart or K Mart.

Container Store has white ribbed shelf liners. We used them for every horizontal inch of the house, including cupboards, medicine chest, laundry...to clean just pull it up and wash in the sink.

Basics are:

Canisters for sugar, flour, etc.
Dish drainer
Pans and skillets
Flatwear and a few really good knives
Cutting Board
Can opener
Glasses
Wooden spoons and other cooking utensils
Mixer
Baking pans

Towels
Cleaners
Toilet brush and holder

There are many things you need to set up a household. Buy just the basics and fill in with decor as you can afford them. Pictures, pillows, plants....all make your new home yours.

If you have a dollar store near by, that's a good place to get the simple things cheap - cooking utensils, small pots/pans, towels, potholders, pizza cutter, little things like that.

I would watch for upcoming 4th of July sales for towels, bathmats, sheets, good pots/pans. You can check out stores like Target and Walmart in the meantime; and don't forget the clearance section.

Keep a list handy as you think of things so you can jot it down and bring it with you when you are going to be out near stores.
