Endorsements stay on your license for 3 years for Insurance purposes but you have to wait for 4 years to have them removed from your license. And you have to pay again to have them take off

An SP30 will remain 'active' on your licence for 3 years (i.e. it will count towards any other points added) after the conviction.
It must remain on your licence for a further year before you can have the points removed (i.e. a total of 4 years), but the points will be 'inactive'.
You must declare the points to your motor insurance company for 5 years following the date of conviction.

The answer is a combination of most of the posts above. With most offences (speeding, no tax, etc), the points will remain valid for 3 years. After 1 more year (4 in total) the points can be removed at your expense. With the case of the more serious offences (causing death while being drunk for example) the points will remain on your licence for 11 years, but I'm not sure if they are valid for a year less like above, or the full 11 years. In court only endorsements in last three years can be considered
DVLA - used to be three years but has apparently now changed to keeping them on record for 4 years
Insurance - you must disclose to your insurance company any endorsements in the last five years unless they state otherwise. Doing so may result in a small increase in premium but if you do not then the policy will be invalid, they can claim all the overdue money from you, refuse to deal with claims or even report you t the police for driving without any valid insurance. Check with your company how long they hold the records for.

the endorsements stay on your license for 5 years but the courts only take into account an endorsement for 3 years after you get it. At least the points that go with it so if you get 12 points in 3 years you a likely to lose your license for a period

The endorsement's valid for three years, i.e. taken into account for other offences, but has to remain on there for four years before you can have it removed.
