If it ends in 's' or 'x', add 'es'.
EX: boss becomes bosses; fox becomes foxes.
If it ends in 'e' or any consonant (b,d,f...), add 's'.
EX: cake becomes cakes; disc becomes discs
If it ends in 'f' change the 'f' to a 'v' and add 'es'.
EX: loaf becomes loaves.
If it ends in 'y' and has a consonant before it, change the 'y' to an 'i' and add 'es', so it's 'ies'.
EX: story becomes stories
If it ends in 'y' and has a vowel before it, just add 's'.
EX: chimney becomes chimneys
If it ends in 'us', change the 'us' to an 'i'.

LOL I was watching the 1960s version of the film "Inherit the Wind" the other night, and one of the townspeople was carrying a sign that said "Atheist - " and something. It should have been plural as well. I laughed so hard, thinking about R&S in this film... I should watch the remake to see if it has been corrected.
