Well, I've been here before. I called the doctor and they told me to wait and see what happens, they said he should pass it with no problem, but to keep an eye on him. They said if I noticed him acting odd or he seemed uncomfortable, take him to the ER. Good luck.

There is a saying that says:
When your first child swallows a nickel, you rush him to the emergency room.
When your second child swallows a nickel, you carefully watch his diapers until you see it.
When your third child swallows a nickel, you deduct it from his allowance.

I'd say give your pediatrician a call, keep an eye on him, but don't panic.

this is gonna sound weird:

my cousin has 5 sons and the youngest 1 swallowed a quarter. another 1 had done that previously, and it went right through him. she waited a couple days and the baby got really constipated. she took him 2 the doc and he said the nickel got stuck coming out, so he had 2 get an operation.

maybe just call your pediatrician and see waht they say

Just watch and make sure it passes. This should happen within a day or two. If it doesn't then I would check with the Dr to make sure it is not lodged in the throat. I heard (Not Confirmed) about a child that swallowed a penny and it got stuck in the throat to where the kid could eat & breath and he got Copper Poisoning from it.

Only if he's wheezing, coughing, or having problems breathing - then he needs to see the doctor NOW. Otherwise, you should see it again in about 2 days... If you haven't seen it in 3 or 4 days, he might need an x-ray, so you might want to call your doctor's office and let them know he swallowed it and that you're looking for it, and if he hasn't passed it in a couple of days, you'll call back.

I agree with most of the others - there *should* be no problem and nature will take it's course but even so you should have him checked out by a doctor just in case even if it just to set your mind at rest. They are used to this sort of thing and will not think that you are being silly or wasting their time - in fact they will admire you for being concerned for your child's heath and welfare.
Once they (probably) find that there is no great problem it is a matter of wait and see - you will see a small change in your child - or rather *out* of him/her!
Best wishes,
Joan.

My nephew did the exact same thing when he was around 2 or 3 and my sister called his doctor. The doc said it'll pass in a day or so. And it did!

So, basically, you have to watch the poop for a while. If it doesn't pass, then you should go back to the doc for some assistance.

But if you are just worried, take them to the doctor's office for an emergency visit.

is he/she having any trouble speaking/breathing? any crying? if not just watch for it to come out the other end- if you dont see it in a couple of days you could call your doctor.

go to md online or try to call your hospital. It is better to prevent something rather than to fix it. Get proffesional help.
