LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Paris Hilton says she will no longer "act dumb."

The reality TV star and relentless publicity-seeker spoke with Barbara Walters by phone Sunday, a day after releasing a statement saying she hoped the media would focus on "more important things" than her 45-day jail sentence, according to ABC News' Web site.

"I used to act dumb. ... That act is no longer cute," ABC quoted Hilton as saying. (Blog: Is Paris receiving justice?

After spending three days in jail in a reckless driving case, Hilton was briefly released to home confinement Thursday for an undisclosed medical condition. An outraged judge sent her back to jail Friday. She is now housed in the medical ward of a maximum-security detention center. (Watch Hilton go to jail Video)

According to ABC News, the call came after Hilton's mother, Kathy, phoned Walters. During the conversation, the 26-year-old socialite called her mom on another line, found out her mother was talking to Walters,

and then called Walters collect. All jail inmates are required to call collect.

Hilton has been saying that she is changed by her jailhouse experience, and she repeated that theme with Walters: "Now, I would like to make a difference. ... God has given me this new chance."

I'd be pretty impressed if God got Paris Hilton to stop acting dumb! LOL.............

Oh... in case you missed it, my question is: do you think this is actually another "jailhouse conversion"?

Yeah, they all seem to turn to god in hopes of convincing the judge that they won't do it again. Unfortunately, most will be repeat offenders, no matter if they've 'found god' or not.

'Act' dumb? I've seen her act, and she can't. I think she might just be dumb.

Paris is not much of an actress, though I did watch her home video a couple of times, so I have to wonder how much acting she had to do, to appear so dumb. She is a real blonde (I noticed that).
As far as her statement "Now, I would like to make a difference. ... God has given me this new chance." goes, I thought it was Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer who put her in a position of vicissitude.

Having blown her chance of only being inside for 23 days (?) by this pathetic fiasco, she now has to serve out her full sentence in jail.

I think she is desperate to try and get back to the reduced jail time.

Also she has been shown to be a whiny spoiled rich brat. This could be damage control for her PR image too.

Acting smart will take some experience. She has spent a lifetime acting dumb.
Didn't take long for the conversion if she is really serious.

Whether it is or not has no bearing on my faith, which is based on the truth of the bible, not on what Paris Hilton or any other celebrity does.

Wouldn't be the first, won't be the last if it is one, and in the end, actions speak louder than words. We'll have to see what happens when she's out.

I personally do not see anything wrong with a jailhouse conversion as there are many who need it wherever they are.

Obviously she's not done yet.
