I am applying for a job at a city office, they have a online application or I can fax my resume. Which is better? Or should I do both?

I just realized that I have to print the application off the website and fax it in, but there is also a link to e-mail a resume but not the application. Should I still fax them both?

Fax.

They should accpet both, if either one was prefered more they wouldn't accpet the other type of application.

The reason I say fax is this: an online application exists electronically, it will end up as one of litterally hundreds of emails in someone's inbox, they'll look at it once and forget about it, it will go to the bottom of the list as more mail comes in and if they ever do see it again they will figure its been too long and you've found another job by now.

If you fax it to them they have a physical piece of paper, they can't ignore it. Typically a receptionist/secretary will recieve the fax and they won't dare throw it away, a resume looks important, they don't know if their boss was expecting it so they will error on the side of delivering it and letting them decide. Its a lot harder to ignore or forget about a physical piece of paper than an email.

when I was applying for jobs, I litterally applied for dozens of jobs online with vertually no responses, I heard this advice and began mailing my resume through snail mail to companies. Every single company I sent it to responded either by calling or by mailing me more info etc.

Both are good!!! An application is asking for all your personal informational and a brief summary of your work experience. The application may include any consent forms that your potential future employer might want you to sign. A resume is more of a detailed list of your past/present work experience!!! You can fax your resume, just be sure to specify that it is an addition to your application. I suggest you do both!!!

Good Luck!!

As a executive, if I decided to hire someone I always liked a resume, compared to a lazy electronic application. It is so much more professional. Here is a tip. After you submit your resume via fax, call the person in charge of hiring, and thank them for accepting your resume, then remind them your available for a interview anytime. It should land you the job.

both would be best. Fax the application and the resume together with a cover letter.

Both is best. A resume should be a "tease" that gives just enough info to want them to know more. List experience and awards, degree/s etc but don't go into detail. You want them to call you in to ask in person. An application is much more detailed. Answer every question in detail and don't leave anything blank. Good luck

Both.
That way they have all information in front of them. It will let them remember you more. On Fax write: In Addition to Online Application.

I would do both. Most companies now require both. Online app to get your foot in the door and the resume for details.

Both, as it will show your determination. Also, you're name will be seen by more people and therefore it will stick in minds better.

Mock Scenario:

Man #1-"This Jen girl looks OK."
Man #2-"Wait, I remember someone named TW. I saw her application."
Man #1-"She also sent a resume because I saw it. She seems determined. Let's set up an interview."

On line, any questions you feel are irralavent or just plain are you own buisness and no one elses, must be answered, or the PC won't move on with the application.

If mailed in by you,you control what info they will and will not get.
