You aren't a christian because you're baptised but you should be baptised if you're a christian.

First of all, only Catholics participate in baptism, I think. I grew up in a Christian home, went to Catholic School for elementary school, and was baptised when I was a year old, but the baptism doesn't make the Christian as much as the belief in the teachings of Christianity. Baptism symbolizes the removal of "original sin", which Christians believe we were all born with because of the first sin of Adam and Eve. Also, at most baptisms (the ones given at an early age, in particular), family friends or relatives take a vow as your godparent, promising to guide you in your religious journey as you grow up. At my church, they have programs and groups that adults converting into Catholicism can join. The groups are taught basic Catholic beliefs and go on retreats and things like that for a little less than a year. The next Easter season, they are all baptised as Catholics, but it's a joint ceremony, not as long or individual as a child's baptism. So baptism is mainly a symbolic sacrament. In order to participate in any of the other sacraments, like confession or communion, you must be baptised. So the answer to your question really depends on how Christian a person is. If they believe in receiving communion and being officially named a Christian, then, yes, they might want to get baptised. But being a Christian should be about the beliefs in Jesus and the teachings of the church. I think that baptism is a great way to publicly declare your faith and it is also a way to feel more spiritually connected with the church.

The whole basis of a baptism is to show the world, and to tell the world that you have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into your life. Yes you can be a christian without being baptised but do you study the word daily, pray daily, are you active in your church and finally, do you witness to the lost. Those are the 4 main components you need in order to maintain a strong relationship with the lord.
If you have recently accepted the lord Jesus Christ into your life I would Like to congratulate you. It is a decision that you will never regret. I was save 4 years ago and I was Baptised. Instead of doing it in a little pool that is inside the curch I wanted to be baptised in a river. Unfortunately I had chose a bad time to have it done (very cold river in TN. Need I say more?) but I definitely will never forget the Moment. If I were you go with a Baptism anyway.
If you have not accepted Jesus into your life yet, then I recommend going to this link:

This should tell you rather or not you need him in your life.

I hoped this helped,

This is kind of a hard one......

Baptism is something that happens within someone (within the soul), it's not the actual visual representation of the Baptism, which is what you're referring to.

A Baptism is a rebirth. It's a complete change of the way you think, feel, and act, about everything..... It's when you've been filled by the Holy Spirit.... So, no, you can't be "Christian," without being Baptized. (Christian=Christ-like. You want to be Christ-like, once you've been Baptized.)

I was Baptized while at work, a couple years ago. But, I didn't have an outward representation of that Baptism, until a few month's later, after some deep Bible study.

Yes, you can be a Christian without being baptized. Of course the thief on the cross is the prime example. But if you're not dying when you become a believer, being baptized is a step of obedience and a way of publically declaring your faith. It's a great opportunity.

Yes. Temporarily.

Examine the definitions of the word:

Chris·tian /ˈkrɪstʃən/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kris-chuhn] –adjective

1. of, pertaining to, or derived from Jesus Christ or His teachings: a Christian faith.

2. exhibiting a spirit proper to a follower of Jesus Christ; Christlike: She displayed true Christian charity.

3. a person who exemplifies in his or her life the teachings of Christ: He died like a true Christian.

Remember the Ethiopian eunuch who was baptized by Philip? As soon as he learned and accepted the truth about the Messiah, he saw a body of water and said "What prevents me from being baptized?"

Your christian dedication is something that is in your heartfelt prayer to God. The public display happens after the dedication is made. But your life as a christian begins when you make the dedication.

Of course one could be a believer in Jesus as the Son of man, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Christ, the Savior and not be baptized.
However, since Jesus was baptized and directed the disciples to go forth and baptize all nations, many Christians feel the need to do it as an outward profession of faith. Since in the bible it said- they believed and were baptized.
IMO its a personal issue, no one has the right to say, you must do it, if God convicts them to do so, they will.

You can be a Christian catechumen without being baptized. However, the journey of a Christian disciple should culminate in baptism. Just as the gospels of John and Mark open with baptism, and Luke and Matthew open with new birth, so should the gospels of a Christian's life open with new birth and baptism.

When we sub mitt to Jesus as our personal Savior, we are baptized with the Holy Spirit. So if your talking about the water baptism that the religious people talk about, no we don't need to do that to be Christians
Example: the man on the cross with Jesus was not baptized with water, yet, Jesus said " Today you will be with me in paradise".
And if you study the Bible you will notice there are not examples of women or children being baptized, yet Jesus talks about many woman Christians ( they were called disciples then).

well personally i believe you can be christian without even setting foot in a church. its not how show you believe but why you believe. here i know a guy who is a devout christian... eagle scout and what not, he is also a liar, a cheater and a thief not to mention hes a lawyer (i just dont like lawyers). and i know another man who has not been to church since he was eight, he prays every night and is for the most part a good guy... not that he doesnt have his pitfalls but they arent as bad as the first person

No, you can't. You can follow the teachings of Christ. But the bible in the new testament says clearly that unless you are baptized, you will not see the Lord.

As a Christian, I don't know why so many evangelists who claim to follow the bible leave this critical detail out, unless it's for convenience. Either way, it's wrong to pretend the bible doesn't say so.
