Stretch marks are scars left behind when skin is overstretched, and fibers in the middle layer (dermis) have broken. They most often occur during pregnancy, bodybuilding, extreme weight gain, occasionally puberty and are usually found on the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, legs, and upper arms. Fresh stretch marks appear initially as purple lines and then slowly fade to a pale white color over the course of several months. While it is possible to reduce and even eliminate the appearance of stretch marks, it is much easier to prevent them.

Increase your Skin’s Elasticity
Skin Creams and Lotions – Lotions containing cocoa butter are rumored to not only help reduce stretch marks, but to help prevent them entirely. Any cream or oil that is made specifically for the prevention or treatment of stretch marks will help keep your skin healthy and elastic. If you are pregnant or breast feeding consult your doctor first as lotions can contain ingredients that may be passed to your unborn baby or into breast milk.
Vitamin A, E & C – Supplementing these vitamins may help increase the strength and elasticity of the collagen within your skin and reducing your chance of forming stretch marks.

There are two basic varieties of stretch marks: white and red. Older, mature stretch marks are commonly white or silver-colored; newer stretch marks tend to be reddish or purple in color. Light-based technologies are now available to treat both types of stretch marks non-invasively, allowing them to gently fade into memory — where most people think they belong

the purple stretch marks are the newer ones you get once your skin has been stretched from a pregnancy. i don't recall there ever being white ones, but once your original stretch marks begin to fade, they turn silver.

the purple ones are usually from pregnancy and they are big and ugly, and they fade to white. white stretch marks are usually small, and people normally get them while growing.

well the white ones are caused because we gain and lose weight all the time or very fast...therefore the skin streches and they appear...an example of this are pregnant woman the more they gain weight later after babies born they will have more or less strech marks....some woman only have a few ones not too big ....when the red ones appear its because for example you streched too much while doing muscle work out...I have a friend who likes to work out every day and lifts weights and he got red ones all over his arms....because the effort he makes its too violent or agressive therefore they appear.

They are all purple when new, and turn to white as they "age". Vitamin e cream will help them a lot.

i think its how deep the stretch marks are, but some times it just depends on the skin, i mean for black people the deeper they are the darker they are..so i assume it just depends on how much the skin has been stretch and damaged...
