You came to the right place ; ). The most important thing about singing is breathing. When you breathe in your stomach should go out and should stay out as you sing.

To practice this lay down on the ground and place a phone book on your lower stomach(diaphragm area.) If you Breathe properly the book should fall off every time.

Some people have big mouths so there constants are too wide. The best practice for this is to watch yourself in the mirror and but two finger on each side of your mouth. Sing and make sure your mouth doesn't go past your fingers.

That's a good starter lesson if you want more you should really consider voice lessons. Yes they are expense but they're worth it.

P.S. Drinking gallons of water each day helps your voice tremendously. (and some tea in between). Good Luck.

Sing. Anything and everything. One way to increase your vocal flexibility is to sing songs that are out of your range. Keep reaching for those high and low notes. If you cant afford a singing teacher, you can practice scales on your own. What Christina said about placing a phone book on your stomach is a good idea. You want to "sing from your diaphragm." The sound needs to be "supported." Lie on your back with the book on your belly and take a deep breath (raising your stomach). Then sing a single note as long as you can trying to keep the book up. Then continue going up a half note each time. Or you can do partial scales this way going up five notes then down five notes. Also singing ah ay ee oh oo in this same fashion.

Listening to yourself on a tape recorder would be of benefit also. Tape yourself singing a song then listen to it. What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? Work on correcting what you don't like.

Experiment. And have fun.

There's a helpful book called Learn to Sing-Step By Step that you can purchase at www.ronnylee.com. Ronny Lee is a well known music educator from New York City who has written many books for publishers like Mel Bay. The learn to sing book covers vocal exercises, vocalises and music theory and has a CD to help with the actual sounds of the notes.
