The most efficient way to make a forcefield using todays technology would be to have several powerful rail guns with motion sensors and automated processing that simply pumps so much lead into anything that gets close to you that it is completely destroyed.

If you're thinking of Star wars style invisible shields well that's still quite far away

Repellent formulas have the right idea, but as far as I know, "forcefield" is broad... if you're thinking of a forcefield as, say, from Star Fox that just completely blocks missles+lasers and such, heavy objects surrounding the object you would like to protect would be the way to go. As for, say, the United States having its own force field...er... yeah.... I don't know...

electricity could be used to keep objects from entering such as cars and people but i dont think we have a so called "forcefield" technology to stop bullets or hey .. lasers?
