With a lot of today's mattresses being pillow top, you cannot flip them.... A good mattress though, whether flipped or not should last about ten years. At least this is what I was told when I bought my first mattress ten years ago. That mattress is still in ok shape but not perfect (and it wasn't top of the line to begin with).
I have since invested in a king size sleep number mattress. It is INCREDIBLE and should last forever.... of course the pump may go eventually but that is cheaper to replace than a mattress.

Most quality mattress of any size are guaranteed for at least 10 years if not longer. However, I bought a king mattress a few years ago and after only 1 year it was worn out and had "troughs" in it. So I took it back to the store I bought it at and they gave me a brand new one. I picked a better model than the one I had and just had to pay the difference to upgrade. It's worth a shot if you haven't had it long.

As a certified interior designer I always recommend every SEVEN years, regardless of turning and flipping mostly for hygiene purposes. Sweat, dust mites are all over mattresses, flaky scaly dead skin etc, no matter how you clean and vacuum them. Not to mention the possibility of the new threat; the return of bedbugs in this country. Yes it's been all over the news.
Get a washable mattress cover and pillow covers also. Hey you spend 1/3 of your life there. So in a lifetime you buy just one more mattress set. Who deserves it more than YOU !

A good mattress should last you 10 years. The upholstery layers in all mattresses compress over time. For optimal performance, be sure to flip your mattress occasionally to extend its durability and renew its comfort. Many of the newer mattresses are no flip, like mine, and has a pillowtop. I still rotate mine every couple of months or so.

I would have to agree with most your audience: 10 years average. BUT if you want to get technical, it depends on how much you weigh, whether you wet the bed or not, how often you have sex, how often it's not used, who else uses it, and if the springs are of good quality. Good luck!

Depending on the brand and how well you take care of it, (turning it around and flipping)
most well known brands can get up to 10yrs +.
We buy a new one regardless of what brand it is, every 8yrs.
We usually buy top name brands.
