Mine are both "rescue cases." Storie (Lady Nefretiri Bastet of Astoria) is a very happy, VERY SWEET pretty little calico "mongrel". Her mother belonged to a faculty member who lived on the campus where I went to college. There were 20 kittens born on campus in 2 months time! Storie's mother's family had 3 cats simultaneously pregnant! A staff lady got so fed up she began collecting cats to take them to the pound. I found out that Storie (5 weeks old, not old enough to be away from mother) and her mother were on the way to the pound. One quick phone call to my cat lover mom and Storie was officially saved. Mom raised her while I was doing Student Teaching in Clombia, South America. That worked out great, because mom has "a way" and any cat my mom raises will be sweet. Anyway, we had an understanding that she was mine, and when I moved out/started my career, she would go with me. I love her to death. She's the perfect cat, my baby.
Moses is a very large 16 lb orange tabby with semi-long to long hair. I'm positive he has to have quite a bit of Maine Coon in him. He was dumped off near where I lived at my 1st real teaching job. A tiny kitten, he was sickly and rather homely, I thought. I have a real soft spot for cats and agreed to hang on to him, get him medical attention, and find him a home. I found one prospective home, but they wanted to wait till he was fully better. When that time came, I couldn't get ahold of them, so I always say he "found his own home-with me!" Storie was 2 at the time, and I'd been thinking seriously about getting a kitten so she'd have a friend and to keep her "playful." I'd wanted a Himilayan (mom has 2- soo gorgeous). But I'm glad I kept Moses. (Garfield Moses Tchaikovsky). BTW.. his fur texture changed entirely, and he is SOOO gorgeous with his longish fur and gorogeous persian-like tail. A perfect picture of a maine coon, if you ask me. But I'm sure he's mixed.
Sorry.. LOL.. I love my babies!!
