My ex called to thank me. He said he understood what I was trying to do...as far as be there for him and help him change his ways...but he said he didn't like my approach...what does that mean?

He means you are being pushy into his life, and you have no business being there. He is your 'ex'. Let him live his life his way and you need to stay out of it.

He probably meant he didn't like the way you handled helping him, and his ways. Maybe he wanted you to help him the way you did, but at a slower rate. Or its possible he didn't want you to help him the way you did. No one knows, but how about you ask him, instead of asking us. He could tell you, or ignore you either way, you have my answer.

(Please give more infromation next time)

I think he appreciates your insights and perspectives, but perhaps he feels that you might be judgemental and a little harsh in the way you go about being there for him.

You may have been well intentioned but the way you did something didn't yield the results you were looking for.
