Ask yourself what is a soul? What does it do? What is it comprised of and where is it located? Is it something that is unchanging and totally independent of our physical bodies, or is it something completely dependent on our physiology?
I'm not saying that one actually exists, but if it did then what are it's characteristics? Is there a standard definition or is it just something that people assume is there because someone told them it was there. Is it just another allegorical concept, such as looking deep within your heart for something, even though the heart has no reasoning capabilities whatsoever and heart transplants don't result in people changing who or what they love and care for?
I'm going to ask a series of questions regarding the soul today, so please stay tuned and try to answer the follow-up questions if you decide to answer this one.

Nope. There's nothing in there. Just a brain full of nerves that form a mind driven by biological processes.

Sealed in a room with dozens of sensors and measuring devices a soul could not be detected .
For others who go for reincarnation ,this must be my first go around because I have no past life experiences making it difficult to accept others so called past lives .
I notice with the millions of slaves and prostitutes and spear sharpners ,that no one seems to recall those lives .
They where high priest kings queens and merchants of vast fortunes and lands .
I think a law needs to be written that will once and for all eliminate religion as the true scurge it is . Worse then heroin or crack religion wants you to believe in an after life .
And that you should serve others on earth .
Well I am so sorry but I refuse to serve thankyou .

true enough, you make a valid point with your statement. For me the soul consist of what makes you ...YOU. People are born the way the are even though the can change paths in life but still remain or know who they are (truly). People catorgorize heart and soul together for the fact the heart gives us the ability to live so naturally the two are going to be combined. I think you should read the following link

Though I describe myself as an atheist, I do tend to think there is a component to life that is separate from the physical and that continues on after physical death. Call it a soul if you will. My opinion has no basis in provable fact, only in the reasoning that nothing in the universe ceases to exist, it only changes forms. I have difficulty accepting that all of the memories, knowledge and wisdom we accumulate over the course of our lives is lost at death. Rather, I tend to think it is somehow returned to a collective unconscious we're all a part of. Again, only an opinion based on nothing more than subjective reasoning. And I certainly don't believe it has anything to do with any "god".

Yea. I think it does.
the self-aware essence unique to a particular living being
Makes me (or anyone else) 'who I am'. Why I think the way I do, why I act/react the way I do......
ethereal in nature - it holds together the physical -
characteristics are individualized. yours are different than mine
I don't think it is allegorical. I think it is a real something that helps make us who and what we are.

it is metaphorical...and something that offers a human all the emotional qualities that we need in order to survive...if we were not persuaded by some kind of GOOD force then we would be nothing more than a being existing physicaly and every action we encountered would have absolutely no meaning whatsoever

My friend, your soul is the real you. This body is just a shell. The bible says do not be afraid of the one that can kill the body, but be afraid of the one that can kill the soul. The soul is you that will live forever either in hell or in the presence of the Lord. It is while the soul is in this body that we are given the opportunity to chose which end we will face. Life is a test! God wants us to chose to live by his standards or be lost in this world's psychology.
Don't you think it to be strange that we are the only creatures that have this ability. Animals for instance do not have souls. They are living creatures, but not spirit filled creatures.

The soul is what gives us self-awareness and constitutes our conscience. If we had no soul, we would all be nothing more than monkeys. What else makes us different from animals?

I used to think the "soul" was simply the result of neuron interactions.
Then I took it out of my body.

The soul resides in the pituitary, like a genie in a bottle. If someone consumes your pituitary you die a spiritual death. (This was a belief long ago)
