Exodus 20:5 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;"

Deuteronomy 4:24 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
"For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

I don't know if you are in a relationship or have children but wouldn't you be jealous if someone tried to entice your loved one to doing something that is against your will or beliefs?

Are you the epitome of love and forgiveness for your wife or girlfriend? If so, remember that when you catch her in bed with another man. No jealousy, now.

Jealousy is a human emotion based on lack of confidence in oneself. A "jealous God" would be a poor sort of God! I suppose religious people will protest that "what God really means" is that He will not tolerate the worship of other gods - but it's the same thing. Human beings make God in their own image and then ignore the contradictions that naturally arise.

He's full of love and forgiveness when it comes to sin but he is a jealous god when it comes to putting someone or somethin else before him.. Read your Bible and you might understand.

Jealousy seems to have gotten a completely bad connotation these past decades. Jealousy is not always bad.
When there is genuine love, there will be jealousy.
If you love your spouse, how would you feel if they sought some other lover?

The word 'jealous' is like the word 'hate'.
It is only known by ONE of its uses.
However, many words have a second and third definition ...providing nuances and shades of difference.
Jealousy can be a positive thing.

He is Jealous for our affection. That says more about us than it does about Him. He wants to be sure we won't forget about Him and stray to other Gods (or, more sinister still, forget Him entirely). His jealousy, that anthropomorphic trait, brings out the relationship we have with Him and the importance of keeping this first (most important) commandment.

Because He wants all of us. He'll love us and forgive us, but He doesn't want us to worship other gods.

Whether love, money, people, things...

He wants us to worship only Him. He's God. He can do whatever He wants.

God's jealousy isn't like human jealousy. God loves us with an infinite love and He wants us to turn our lives over to Him.
