My one year old pug and I were sitting on the couch together and I felt something crawling on my arm, I looked down and it was a bug and I went to hit it and it jumped, it was pretty small and brown. I am hoping it is not a flea. I am not sure where it went, and we are taking our dog in tonight to the vet to get her Revolution (flea tick heartwork control med). What do I do if I see this bug again? How do I kill it? Is it a flea?

Sounds like a flea. There are sprays for carpeting and furniture that ate safe to use with your dog nearby - Petsmart, Petco and many other department stores have them. Spray the area and vacuum. You will want to do this according to the directions on the spray you purchase and it may take multiple applications (to get the fleas that hatch later). If your pug goes outside, you may want to spray your yard too. If you don't have one, you may want to get a flea comb and use it to get them off your pug. You can catch and squash fleas (a hard surface and your fingernail will work) if you're fast enough or put them in a dish soap and water solution - let 'em drown.

It might be a flea. Don't worry, though, YOU won't get fleas. It might bite you, decide you aren't yummy, and move on to the dog. If your dog has fleas, he will be get the flea treatment. Just keep on schedule with this treatment. The fleas that are alive now will lay eggs and hatch. The new fleas won't have anything to feed on if your dog is on the medicine, so they'll just die. Then you won't have anymore fleas.

If your house is seriously infested with fleas, then you can do a flea bomb. Ask your vet for recommendations.

It's a flea. I like Frontline better than the newer ones. It's weaker and you still do have to give ivermectin by mouth to prevent heartworms, but smaller doses are safer than larger ones. I just like the older stuff better.

Next time you see a flea, catch it and drop it in a spare bottle of alcohol to kill it.

Sounds like a flea, and this time of year you'll find a lot of them. You can pick up some spray for your home-ask the vet what brand they would suggest. Spray your rugs, carpeting, just about everything and vacuum often. You will probably have to shampoo your carpets just to make sure you got rid of the buggers.

It certainly sounds like a flea to me.. If you do see that particular bug again. Get yourself a glass and put some water in it, add a bit of dishsoap and drop the flea down into the water. It soaks into them, and kills them.

It sounds like a flea and yes you should always have a spray on hand even though you have her on revolution . I always keep a bottle of frontline around just in case.

Sounds like a flea, you can just squish them.

If you are taking him in, you should be fine. Just vacuum REALLY well and wash things out. Fleas are a REAL pain, but they aren't the worst thing your dog could have.

Yep it sounds like a flea to me .. it may have jumped on her out in your yard .or could have even rode in on you .
anyway you may need to put down some carpet flea powder and if you go out in your yard and look down in the grass as see a bunch of fleas you may need to spray out there too.
