Do what makes YOU happy...
I married again at age 43 (I'm now 48)..and married in a blue dress...and was barefoot...it's what "I" wanted...
Being from the South...I know what your in-laws might be like...but heck, if they can't take YOU for YOU...then nothing you choose to wear would appease them anyway...
Be happy...Be YOU.....it's YOUR day (along with hubbie to be!)...
Trying to be anything other than who and what you are, is a disgrace....don't you think?

You can do as you like, of course. You are the bride and it's up to you what you wear. On the other hand, when a friend of my brother's got married several years ago, the biggest talk of the event was the fact that the bride wore black. And these were, by and large, graduate students, computer technicians, and people otherwise involved in the academic and scientific fields in Southern California. Few were particularly religious in any direction. Some had a mild fondness for the Goth subculture. IOW, these were probably the least likely group to be judgmental about what the bride wore. They judged.
If this is the first time you're meeting your in-laws, I'd suggest at least considering finding something that isn't black or backless.
Your day, your decision, but do be aware that this will color all your dealings with your new husband's family if they find your wedding attire shocking.

You could dress it up with white or black and white accessories.
The color a person chooses to get married in is a product of culture largely. Americans and Europeans tend to wear white. in China they wear red. In Japan you see a lot of red and white...
Most important thing is to feel beautiful. No matter which marriage it is, the wedding itself is still a special moment between the two of you.
Besides you can get away with a lot more in Vegas. Find one of those theme chapels that will do a Black and White wedding or something fun like that.

Sounds like a great dress to be married in.
The future in-laws should be respectful enough to keep their mouth shut during your special day.

I have to say that's a bit unconventional, but being that's not your first wedding, I would say go for it. Perhaps I would recommend the groom to wear a white tuxedo for a change :).

First impressions are lasting impressions. Save the dress for the honeymoon and wear something off-white.

It seems to me that the question here is not what is right, but what is wise, and the wise thing to do would be to avoid any family drama and just do it the traditional way.

I would think that black is a little much! try a white! Black dresses on your wedding day lead to bad luck but it is your life and your option! Good luck!
