Go to the local recruiting office and talk to them. Ask them any questions you have, even if you think they're stupid. If you know other people in the military, talk to them about their experiences, or have the recruiter introduce you to others you can talk to.

Talk this over with your parents too. Ask for their help in researching this. Perhaps one or both can come with you to talk to the recruiter. They might think of questions that don't occur to you.

Whatever you do, don't sign anything until you are completely satisfied with the information you have received. Only sign if you are absolutely sure you want to join the Guard because there's no backing out of your commitment once you've signed.

All you need is parental approval. My nephew is going into that Army next month. He turns 18 one month after that. His mom and dad signed papers that the recruiter brought.I went through the same thing 25 years ago.I joined the Navy at 17.
Talk to your parents and let them know how you feel, they will understand. They may even be proud of you.Talk to the military recruiters and they will get the process going. All of the branches of military have websites you can visit.

Now your only 17, got your whole life ahead of you so many things out for you. My suggestion, do your research on what you want to do before anything else.
