It won't kill you. I do everything in Teva sandals with no socks, from hiking hard slippery sierra trails to water activities. No problem.

I think ankle socks are better for camping because if there are chiggars in the grass you will be better protected. No-show socks might be "in" but not for camp. The bare ankles may get bites.

The other socks are just fine.
If you are going to be in any kind of woods, I would highly suggest higher socks.
Ticks and god's little creatures are out there waiting for a tasty treat to come their way.

socks are socks, i saw a guy with socks up to his thighs yesterday... he had to stop in the middle of the intersection to pull one back up but hey thats his style not mine... lol! he must not have a girl to help him dress...
