How does the skill and training of the singers of different styles (e.g., pop, opera, rock, classical etc) vary and what is the same?

Thanks

P.S., if they have training at all!

There are many types of vocal training. Though many classical artists would argue that their way is the "correct" way to sing, you can train for many different styles.

The main thing that varies among the different types of genres is execution. In other words, the difference is how you make sound come out of your vocal chords. Some people naturally sing nasally. Others practice for hours on end to achieve a nasally sound. It all depends on what you desire your voice to sound like.

The unifying factor among all genres is tonal training. Have you ever heard someone on American idol that wasn't terrible, but they just weren't quite good enough? A lot of times their tone is not quite on. This is where it is easy to tell who has trained their ear to hear correct pitch and who has not.

Hope this helps a little.

since singing opera is more demanding, it takes more practice.
any singer with talent should have training of some sort. Even if it's only to know what key they sing in best.

I agree with Fifi..... I would say that classical and opera would take training and expertise to sing correctly... whereas pop would not.. its more a freestyle way to sing.
