My husband and I are going to babysit a friend's 2 children (ages 3 and 7) for three days (Fri, Sat, Sun). We will be staying at their house. They also have two dogs. I have no idea what people charge for this type of job.

I just did an overnighter, and charged $60, so I guess $180 would be good.

WOW...you are good friends! i think you should discuss the charges w/ your friends BEFORE you babysit/housesit, so you're not disappointed & resentful...i would think easily $200 for the weekend...it's a lot of work (even if they're really good kids)...def. talk it over w/ them first...maybe ask them how much they've budgeted for your services (?)

i agree, people should do things out of kindness, but are you having to take off of work to help them out??

So why arent you or your husband going to work on those 3 days? charge them for lost wages at least. Id charge em min wage but give em a discount because they are giving you free run of their house.

since you are friends, considering trading - like have them house/dog/baby-sit for you the next time you go on vacation.

or maybe like, 50-100 dollars? i would have a hard time charging my friends like that - would it be possible for you to see how much they would be comfortable giving you? coming to some kind of agreement would be better than setting a price.

Personally, if they were my good friends, I wouldn't be charging them anything.
