Spanish is a must, but after you learn Spanish, Italian and French are fairly easy to pick up since they all come from Latin and many words are similar.

It really depends on what you want to specialise in - we Classify Italian, French; Spanish; Portuguese; German as modern European languages - these are of benefit if you would like to work in a company that has a pan- European office (I speak 4 European languages and got this job because of that), however you are looking for economic security and also further development - i would go for Mandarin Chinese - this will be the business language of the future for companies wanting to take advantage of the "new and emerging markets" -

What are you reasons for learning a language. In my opinion Chinese will be very beneficial to know in the near future if you will be involved in politics or trade. Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese are all Latin based languages with many similarities, especially on paper which means by learning one you will learn something of the others by association. I love spanish. But why stop at one? What is your native tongue?

Arabic for Middle-Eastern business, or religious reasons
Chinese for world-wide business
Italian/ Spanish/ French/ Portuguese depending on where you live or want to live/visit.

Edit// Do you want to be completely fluent in a language, or just verbally fluent? Reading and writing Arabic and Chinese will be difficult to learn because the alphabet is so different from the English alphabet, not to mention the style (direction) of verse.

For some people, this depends on where you live. If you live anywhere near the Canadian border, most people would say French. If you live near the Mexican border, it would be Spanish. But, this also depends on where you plan to travel in the future or do as a job. I take Spanish, just because I find it to be more usefull, since I travel a lot to Spanish speaking-countries. Also, more people in the world speak Spanish than French, so I would say it would be the language to study. Whatever you choose, enjoy learning it!

-Adios!

The two that I'd prefer are Arabic and Spanish. Arabic because it is one of the wordly used language and Spanish because I like the language.

They are really hard though, esp. Arabic. Good Luck though. Ps. I'm trying to learn Arabic myself..
