my 4 year-old has an outbreak of numerous, raised, small red bumps only on his legs & arms with little pustules. there is no itching. it seems as though there is a connection to swimming but it could be dietary. his pediatrician says it is viral but it is worsening & the sympyoms appeared 8 days ago.

actually, the way you describe it, it sounds kind of like impetigo,a viral infection. my son used to get it all the time on his knees. the water made it worse. wrestlers get it too. i don't really know how it starts but, we used hibicleanse, which can be purshased at a pharmacy, to wash the area and put antibiotic ointment on it. it helped.

When my daughter was young she got folliculitis from sitting in the bath tub for prolonged periods. You can get it from swimming too. It is caused by the friction of clothing on wet skin. Have you tried going to webmd.com and researching the rash. That might help. I would definitely call your Doctor again and explain what is happening. By the way, folliculitis does not itch. Try and google folliculitis, there are some interesting articles out there. Good luck!
