Our grannie wants to take my husband and I to Hawaii, but instead of camping on the beach ( like she wants and she's 78), I'd prefer at least a bed. I've never been to the islands, so where are good accommodations, on which island and if you know the average cost per night. We could share a rooms as the 3 of us.

Try the Ohana hotel chain, they have dozens of good but inexpensive hotels throughout the Islands. Yes all three of you can share a room, and all of the islands are wonderful. I recommend Maui as it seems to have the best mix of beauty, activities and accommodations.

check out www.vrbo.com

they are vacation rentals. when i go to hawaii, i usually like to stay in one of these instead of hotels. depending on the island, they average anywhere from 70-100/night. if there are 3 of you, this is definitely a good way to go because it's a bigger space than a hotel (i stayed at 2 bedroom condo when i was in kauai and there was only 2 of us) and you have a full kitchen if you don't feel like eating out every night.

Kona Seaside on big island, half a block from the beach and Ali'i drive, mini-fridge and microwave in the rooms, laundry facilities on site, reasonable, clean and - oh yeah - flush toilets! We used Hotwire and paid $57/night (this was in December)

Go to my sources below. You should find something very affordable.
Now, you can go to Pacific Beach Hotel. In the rooms, they have either a king size bed, or two double beds. You and your hubby could sleep in one of the doubles and your mom can sleep in the other.
