I just asked a question on the true sabbath, and there were so many good answers I could not choose a best answer, I let it go to a vote. There are a lot of intelligent people in here.

I know the Catholic Church did not change the day, they just adopted the Sunday law, I am asking who made the law and when did it happen?

Constantine went to preach to the Romans, who worship the sun god on Sunday...
He asked his bishop what he should do concerning the Sabbath, and his bishop told him "when in Roman, do as the Romans do." (by the way, that is where that saying originated.

So he went and the process slowly started to take place.

The Catholics admit they changed it (I believe it is even in the catechism).

Most other Christians believe they worship on Sunday in honor of Jesus raising from the dead on Sunday. When in reality, He rested even in the grave on the true Sabbath.

A lot of people say "it does not matter as long as you go to church..."But God must have thought it pretty important to include in the Top Ten (Commandments)...And isn't it odd that the only one we choose to forget is the only one that starts with "Remember"?

This is a good question, but sometimes we point our finger to some religious organization as the culprit of changing the sabbath day.

Sabbath meaning is "REST", according to Jesus it was made for man, and not man for it (Mark 2:27) for he himself is the Lord of the sabbath. Col 2:16 says "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days" This means that anyday can be a sabbath.

The Jews sabbath is from sundown to sundown which means friday evening to saturday evening. This is their traditions and there is nothing wrong with that.

"And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments (this include the sabbath)." Matthew 19:16-17

verse 20-21 " The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: WHAT LACK I YET? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Even thought we obey the sabbath and the 10 commandments WHAT LACK WE YET? This is the question that we must answer not the sabbath.

There is more than one answer to this. Paul had people gathering on the first day of each week:
1 Corinthians 16:2
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

But that was a directive made by Paul who talks about the fulfillment of the Sabbath, because the Sabbath was merely a 'type or shadow' of something which already manifested:

Colossians 2
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

So again, the idea that the worshipper need not have 'a certain place' and 'and not need any certain time', comes to stand out with having to do with worshipping and gathering to worship God. Those that may pick a traditional day are not to be judged, neither those who do not choose any particular day.

This is also something our Lord has said:
John 4
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

So the Law was made by God, and the fulfillment of that law was accomplished by Jesus Christ.

I really have found this subject to be devisive and makes rifts between Christians. I do not think that is meant to be that way. But merely with the word of God applied, God has made us free. The day can be any day, and Sunday and Saturday may be chosen, even Thursday if it is agreed upon.

Like it says in the bible that Jesus says he will give only one sign that Jonah spent 3 days and 3 nights int eh belly of the whale so shale the son of man be in the earth (Mathews 12:40). Back then evening was consider the begining of the day and morning was the end (Genesis 1 :5). Jews light a candle on Friday night. If it was 3 days and 3 nights, how did the church come up with GOOD Friday as Jesus was in tombed and resurrected on Sunday morning (Easter sunrise service) Impossible!

THE TRUTH: Jesus was put in the ground on Wednesday night and rose on Saturday night! There is passover, first fruits and unleavened bread. The Church keeps the traditions of man, to make that extra dollar. Go to a church that is nondenominational to get the truth. God hates these types of holidays ( Is ah 1: 10- 15) The chalotic church lies to you not God! www.mylordmysavior.com

It happened in the council of Laodicea held in 364 A.D.

CANON XXIX.
CHRISTIANS must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honouring the Lord's Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ.

the sabbath day is anyday you set aside to rest and worship the lord....God understands the whole world cant come to a halt for the sabbath day. satan uses this sabbath day thang to throw off the basic message of salvation.like I said before when it is saturday in alabama it is sunday in australia.so to try and pin down a specific day to worship, why not worship God everyday?

It's interesting that the fourth commandment starts with the word "Remember". It's almost as if God knew at some point in the future it would be forgotten or changed.

funny how people want to argue over which day of the week is the "real" sabbath. i think that misses the point. its like some people want a formula to follow in life. life doesnt work like that. you have to live by your conscience.

Churches just followed the Biblical pattern in the New Testament. Jesus met with the disciples on Sunday after His Resurrection. In the book of Acts, it talks about them always meeting on the FIRST day of the week.

I would hope that churches don't need laws to know what to do - they should just follow what the Bible says.
