Have the binky fairy come visit. Start telling your child that you expect that the binky fairy will be coming soon. This fairy comes when a child is very grown up. The fairy takes the binkies to give to little babies who need them, since they are now a big girl or boy. The fairy then leaves a special gift in place of the binkies.
This worked like a charm on my 3 year old daughter.
Good luck!

I did something similiar to what Supernanny does now. This was long before her show and it really worked for me. My son had them stashed all over the house, I am not kidding, either ! If I just took them , he would appear with a different one in his mouth. When he was 2, I told him it was time to gather up all his "paci's" so that all the new babies could have one. We put them in a box ( it was a shoebox that had been wrapped for a birthday gift so it looked like he was making a present) I bet he had 50 pacifiers. He pulled them out of everywhere ! I know, it's gross ! But, he put them in the box and i just kept reiterating how the babies in the world needed them and he was being such a big boy who didn't need them anymore, blah, blah, blah. We put the box outside under a tree for the "Stork" to come and get it to take to the babies. My friend Heather told me about it and it really did work for him. The SUpernanny has the stork leave a really cool gift for the child under the tree or wherever.I didn't do that but it just might work for your little girl since she is a little older. It will make her feel like she got something for her "sacrifice". Just an idea. Hope it helps. Good luck !

Try to convince her that she is a big girl now and big girls don't use a pacifier, they are for babies. You can wean her off of it...let her keep it at bedtime and naptime but not while awake. If she has it in and she's talking to you tell her you can't understand her with that "thing" in her mouth. Get her to trade it for something else. Take her to the toy store and make a deal that if she throws away that "thing" you will get her .... make it small, you don't want to make it a habit. You can try making them "disappear" when she is asleep. Slowing get rid of them and soon there will be none. The best way is to get her to throw them away, then it is her decision and you can show her how proud you are of her for being such a big girl.
Good luck.

Just take it away!!!! Throw them all in the garbage. You can't get a little kid to throw away there most comforting thing. But a 3 year old is way too old for a pacifier. My daughter had one till she was 2 but it was only at night and nap time. I finally was like you are too old, no more! Threw them away. The first night was a little rough because she kept waking up. But after that she was way good about it and has never asked for it again.
My husbands uncle and wife did the whole Binky Heaven. They went and buried the binky's in the yard and told her they were going to binky heaven! It worked on her.

I would gently explain that her binky is going to go away now because she is too old for it. Then when she is unaware I would throw it away. If you have any more children I would strongly encourage you not to use a pacifier. They are the leading cause of upper respiratory tract infections, ear infections, speech delay and crooked teeth in children

if she has a baby cousin tell her that they took her pacifier for that baby because babies need them not big girls.
it takes about a week of crying at night but they forget they ever had one if you keep telling her that the pacifier was given to the baby, and that she is a big girl so she doesnt need one.

My wife and I did the same thing as Dalice. We took all my daughter's pacifiers, had her help us put them in a large envelop, and mailed them to a friend of ours that just had a baby.
We told her the baby needed them. I actually was really surprised when it worked!

What we did and it worked and our toddler was 100% on that pacifier.....was....
we went to the beach and practiced throwing little shells out to the water and waved bye-bye to them as they disappeared or went down....then we tried the pacifier and once thrown and once we said bye-bye....our toddler just assumed that there were no other pacifiers in the world and that his was bye-bye or gone forever.

1) tell her there's a new baby that doesnt have any pacifiers and maybe it's time to give hers away
2) Promise her a small inexpensive reward if she can go without it for 4 days and nights

We went on a trip to Granny's house and conveniently "forgot" the pacifier. Fortunately our three-year-old forgot it, too. Out of sight, out of mind.
