............asking for credit and such.So my friend and I have come up with a solution, tell me what you think of it.
They would put up a sign in the store which would say: CREDIT HAS DIED LAST MONTH, SO PLEASE DON'T ASK FOR HIM.

I like it - you should definitely go for it. It is humorous while at the same time getting your point across.

I am presuming you mean store "credit" (like running a tab) as opposed to accepting credit cards.
[To mikalina: accepting credit cards includes paying fees for the equipment and service. It is not a simple matter of having the technology]

I don't get why the family doesn't simply say, "No, we do not give store credit".

Another option would be to make a sign saying, "Store credit is offered at 100% interest accrued daily".

(That means if you put a dollar on credit today and don't pay back before then end of the day, you owe 2 dollars tomorrow, 3 dollars the next day, etc.)

No, but a discreet sign that says "PAYMENT IS DUE, IN FULL, AT TIME OF PURCHASE" is ok. If they are asking to use a credit card, then, this is the year 2007, and your friend's family should have the technology to accomplish that.

People will still ask for credit, they don't think the sign is for them. the best thing is to have a good answer that you use every time someone asks.something like when "when I give out credit I don't have money to buy more stock. sorry"

How about a sign that says "If you want credit get a VISA card"

Place another sign
"Pay first before you eat", if it is a deli
"Eating is not allowed inside", if it is a grocery
if it is neither a deli nor grocery, just a plain store then look at your customers as if you are eating them.
OK?

That should work. It's to the point with humor mixed in. Good luck...

Not bad, but the best one I have seen was in a Chinese restaurant:

(on a proper plaque)

"In God we trust...everyone else pays cash" :)
