My mother is no longer living, but I always remember how she repeatedly told us "use what you have and you will have plenty." She had heard a sermon as a young woman with this theme and it became her motto in life. The minister went through the Bible citing every instance where the use of what was available was sufficient. I have always found this to be true in my life also.

"Be yourself! don't just act like the crowd."
"go comb your hair"
Now my grandmother had some sayings!
"If you don't quit playing in the basement and get some sunshine, your'e going to turn green!" (spanish saying)
"If you eat the seeds you will grow a tree in your stomach"
"your ears are dirty enough to grow potatoes"
"donkey meat is not transparent" (spanish saying)
"don't make faces or your face will freeze that way."
"If you have the hiccups it's because you didn't wipe your butt well enough "(another spanish saying) ?????

When you grow up, I hope you have a daughter just like YOU! (and I did!)
Always wear clean underwear
Shut up, or I'll knock you into the middle of next week!
Stop reading and watch tv! (seriously, my mom told me that repeatedly).
Added: How can I get thumbs down for what my mom told me? lol Whatever!

That I am not good enough.
Not in those words, but that is her attitude. I know she is only that way because she doesn't feel good enough herself.
It's sad, I know, but it's the truth.

All kinds of things.
"If you don't stop crying, I'll give you something to cry about."
"You need to get a real job and do something with your life."
"Stop being paranoid. You're going to screw it up."
