Luke.1
[1] Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
[2] Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
[3] It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
[4] That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

I am beginning a Bible Study in the book of Acts and it led me to this first Scripture in the Gospel of Luke.

Some Bible writers had to engage in considerable research to document their material. Luke, for example, wrote regarding his Gospel account:having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, (which translated into modern english means : “I have traced all things from the start with accuracy, to write them in logical order.” ) most excellent Theophilus. Of course, God’s spirit blessed Luke’s efforts, no doubt moving him to locate trustworthy historical documents and to interview reliable eyewitnesses, such as the surviving disciples and possibly Jesus’ mother, Mary. God’s spirit would then guide Luke to record the information accurately.—Luke 1:1-4.

Luke is the 20/20 version of the Gospels. He wanted to make things very clear. He was writing this to Theophilus.

Mark is the action adventure Gospel.

Matthew and John we apostles. John was in the inner circle of Jesus' friends.

Peace and many blessings be with you! Here is the NCV:

Luke 1:1-4

1:1 Luke Tells the Non-Jewish People About Jesus

Luke Writes About Jesus' Life

Many have tried to report on the things that happened among us. 2 They have written the same things that we learned from others — the people who saw those things from the beginning and served God by telling people his message. 3 Since I myself have studied everything carefully from the beginning, most excellent Theophilus, it seemed good for me to write it out for you. I arranged it in order 4 to help you know that what you have been taught is true.

I hope you learn much from your study in Acts. Luke and Acts were written by Dr. Luke.

Luke is simply telling Theophilus ( a type of governor) that, many had written their own accounts of the life of Christ as eyewitnesses, and so it seemed good to Luke to pen his own account. He wanted Theophilus to know the stories of Jesus were true.

Luke didn't know Jesus. None of the New Testament writers did. There was no one following him around and recording his teachings, lifestyle, and impact on society. So, with this understanding....
1) Many have tried to write down what we BELIEVE happened about Jesus...
2) Many have recorded the words of eyewitnesses...
3) But I really have the scoop and can tell you what really happened (not sure if this is just idle bragging because we aren't told on what authority the writer realy had the knowledge that he says he has) it seems cool to me to write this to you, Theophilus,...
4) So that you will know what REALLY happened.

The interesting thing is that the traditional church bases everything on belief. Belief is not the same as Truth. So we get tripped up sometims. The Truth is written on our hearts.

Good luck and God bless as you continue your study!

The people wrote down what they knew Jesus had said and done. The eyewitnesses were the disciples and others who actually saw Jesus. These witnesses were recording the Word of God as the Holy Spirit delivered it to them. The Bible states that Scripture is the inspired Word of God.

Luke wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. For a time they were presented as companion volumes. Luke, being a physician, was thorough and meticulous in gathering his information. Jesus' mother Mary was one of Luke's sources.

Luke is intent 'those things which are most surely believed among us, Delivered from the beginning and we are eyewitnesses to minister these in the word-writen to Theophilus yet to all who will believe-to know the certainty of those things which the bible instructs us to do.'

the reason you got this reference is because Luke wrote both his Gospel and the book of Acts. the Bible keys on credibility

Luke was a doctor and therefore felt it very important to document his facts.

I as a Jew had never read the gospels or the book of the Acts (of the Holy Spirit-and we are chapter 29 because this book never ends-we are Jesus hands extended in the works of the Holy Spirit) a good book also to check with is Fox's book of Martyrs' -this depects the death of Luke and other followers of Jesus for refusing to deny the truths they wrote.

this is how i came to know the Messiah Jesus and to learn the bible -studying it devotionally daily and also for knowledge and wisdom=think of the only sinless one Jesus-while Moses even in his sin that kept him from entering the promised land-declared for the coming of Messiah= "The life of the flesh is in the blood, and it is given to make atonement for your souls." Leviticus 17:11
Muhammad claimed Jesus did not shed his blood as promised and was not our sinless blood atonement for our sins. Yet "He will be rejected. He will lay down his life to make atonement for our sins." Isaiah 52:13-53:12
this is what got truth to me as born a Jew=

Jesus said "I am the way the truth and the life, no one cometh unto heaven but by me." John 14:6

All Scriptures are given by the inspiration of God (God breathed) II Timothy 3:16

Jesus (Revelation 1:1) stated from heaven in the 22nd chapter=last chapter of the bible "If you add to my word you will recieve plagues."
-"Let us make man in our image." Genesis
this is how I as a Hebrew Jew came to know this too= Jesus the promised messiah to die for our sins-"Unto us a child will be born, a son given, and he will be Almighty God, the prince of peace." Isaiah 9:6
how I as a Jew came to know Jesus-I prayed-"Jesus I believe you and ask you to forgive my sins and come into my heart to be my friend, amen."

Jesus promised this in Revelation 3:19&20 "I love you and knock on your heart door to come in, if you repent and ask me in, I will come in and become your friend."

For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourself it is the gift of God, not of works lest any one should boast. Ephesians 2:8&9
Pray and I am praying for you too, David-many are coming to know the true Jesus of the bible. In the truthfulness of the Bible. Jesus is my savior Messiah, and best friend now!
