Rarely (if ever) do I find myself agreeing with iamacatholic2.

But in the case of this question, I am in 100% agreeance that the Pope is definately not the antichrist.

Superficially you hear people equate the word antichrist with the devil, the opposite to Jesus. Sadly, this is a literal rather than a symbolic translation.

The deeper meaning of the word anti-christ is to be found in the interpretation of both words- anti (one who is opposed ..to being) and christ = messiah.

Therefore the antichrist must be someone:

1. Of the bloodline of the House of Judah, the same as Jesus was.

2. Capable of being a messiah in behaviour and action

3. Openly refused the title of messiah

So if you can find through web searches a person that has these kinds of qualities you might just have found the real antichrist.

I don't think so.

Biblical apocalyptic literature predicts the coming of "the" Antichrist, the name given to the one who will be Christ’s chief enemy. This will be just one person.

It is not uncommon for fundamentalist writers or preachers to attach the label to a currently living person. By calling a second (or third or fourth) person "the" Antichrist, they show that they were wrong when they applied the title to the first person.

Every Pope since the time of Martin Luther has been labeled "the" Antichrist by at least one anti-Catholic "Christian," making each one incorrect (so far).

The adjective "anti-Christ" does not refer to the person prophesied in the Bible. It may be applied to an attitude or action judged to be fundamentally opposed to Christ and his message, for example: Hating others is anti-Christ.

Pope Benedict XVI just wrote a wonderful book entitled, "Jesus of Nazareth." http://www.ignatius.com/ViewProduct.aspx?SID=1&Product_ID=3060&AFID=42

From a book review: Through his brilliance as a theologian and his personal conviction as a believer, the Pope shares a rich, compelling, flesh-and-blood portrait of Jesus and invites us to encounter, face-to-face, the central figure of the Christian faith.

How can someone who writes such a book be accused of being either the Antichrist or anti-Christ?

With love in Christ.

The antichrist is said to be a great deciever. The Prophecies of St. Malachy says that Pope Benedict XVI is the last Pope. It gives a list of Popes and has been 100% correct so far.

I think any person could be the anti-Christ. The Pope could be...but the Church cannot be. The president or the prime minister could be.

I do not think the Pope will be though because he is protected by his authority as the Vicar of Christ. He is in apostolic succession to St. Peter. This doesn't mean he is personally good but he is protected through the authority of Christ.

There is a thought that the anti-Christ might be a the "spirit of pluralism." We always think person...but look how pluralism has led many astray.

Nope.

Well I guess in a sick twisted fundie mind he could be. They are ill educated and no nothing accurate of bible or religious history or historical context interpretation, or the practices of those that acually lived with and folllowed Christ. SO they will accept just about anything religiously.

Billy Graham or Benny Hinn or some unmonitored solo pastor church is more likely to be.They got the slick and greasy down and they sure do fool alot of people for their own power.

He is one of many.

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." 1 John 2:18

What makes one an antichrist?? One who does not believe in Jesus AND does not follow his doctrine.

"For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." 2 John 1:7

"Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son." 2 John 1:9

Anybody that fits the descritpion of the anti chirst CAN be the anticrhist.
That's how "good" the prophecy and its descriptions is.
It's specific...but it includes thousands, if not millions of european males.
It cannot be an organization. It has gender. Male.
