I was getting migraines once a week, when the doctor put me on preventatives. I tried nortriptylin which worked great, I only had 1 over about a year. The problem was I built a tolerance to it, had to up the medication. BUt i am in the lower 10% of side effects (which mean I experience everything). They then came back so bad that I was put on Topomax. Worst decision of my life, side effects so bad I was in bed for weeks. WHich I have heard is true for a lot of people. Point is, the only thing I have used which works for migraines is trying to abort them with tylenol and gatorade. IF within 20 minutes the migraine is still coming on, use one of the trypt's (imitrex, maxalt(my fave).) THen put a cold compress on the back of your head at your neck (where the blood vessels are that are swelling causing the migraine.)

Hi. I also suffer from migraines for the past 6-7 years. I honestly can't say that soothing a migraine is even possible. :-( Although, my doctor has helped me to control them a quite bit, so I don't get them as often as I used to.
I take a low dose (25 mg.) antidepressant that he perscribed before bed every night. That REALLY helped me. Instead of getting migraines 1-2 times a month, I now get them maybe a couple of times a year. There are some migraine medications your doctor can also perscribe, but that's pretty much trial and error trying to figure out which works best for you. I like the medication Maxalt. But with most migraine meds, you have to "catch" the migraine before it's a full blown, head pounding pain, in order for the medication to work. So soon as you feel a little pain in your head and you think it might be a migraine coming on, take the pill!
If all else fails, and it's absolutely unbearable, and you just want your head squeezed in a vice grip...I go to the emergency room for a good ole shot in the hiney of Demerol mixed with an anti-nausea medication and off to la la land I go for a nice long nap! I think as long as you have a history of migraines and it's documented in your chart, you should be in and out of the emergency room in no time, if you call ahead to let them know who you are and what you are coming in for. Good luck, and stay well!

OH!...If you try over the counter meds (even though any one who's ever had a full-blown migraine know those meds don't have ANY impact to lessen the pain), READ THE LABELS! You can save a few bucks on most over the counter meds by guying generic. Although, the labels of name brands sound really cool (Excedrin Migraine, Advil Tension, etc.) most have the same ingredients even though say different types of headache pains (very smart marketing is all it is!)

Migraine is a localized pain usually associated with water shortage or dehydration. When dehydrated, the brain which is the most vital organ in the body suffers first. Dehydration releases histamine, a neurotransmitter, that when attached to a nerve causes pain. Hydration will stop histamine release and so relieves the pain. Simple.

To hydrate properly, dissolve 1/4 tsp of sea salt to 1 quart of water. Salt holds water and so hydrates cells adequately. depending on ur size, take 16-24 ounces upon waking up in the morning, 8-16 ounces half hr before meals, 8-16 ounces 2 and a half hrs after meals, 16-24 ounces at bedtime. Take 8 ounces every time U urinate.

In addition to this, take 350 mg of magnesium daily. This mineral calms the brain, relieves spasms of the arteries and relaxes muscles including those located around the head.

Drugs will only give U temporarily relief. Only water corrects Dehydration. Pls avoid coffee, tea, sodas, chocolates and alcoholic beverages. These are dehydrating substances and will make ur condition worse.

Migrains run in my family and i get them all of the time. Okay, if you are looking for medicine, its imitrex, i don't know if that is spelled right or not. But imitrex is a shot that you give yourself into your upper thigh, they are expensive, not to mention, they hurt like hell! But, that is the only medicine that has ever helped me with a migrain. If you don't want to go through with the trouble of medicen, then take a hot shower, wrap up in a blanket, put a pillow behind your neck to pinch off that nerve so that not as much blood will rush to your head. And close the blinds. And stay in absolute silence.
Hopes that this helps you. Migrains are terrible. Hopefully you won't ever have to get hospitalized, bad memories!
Good luck

Advil soft gel capsules work very quickly in the body and can help reduce the pain of migraines.

Lay in a darkened room with an ice pack on your neck and a cold towel on your forehead. Do this for fifteen minutes. Remove the ice and lie quietly for 30 minutes.

We have treated 15 - 20 yrs cases.
There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

Well, how long have you had it?? If it is just starting take about 3 ibuprofen, go in your bedroom. Make it as dark as you can. Lay down and take a couple hours rest. When you wake up you should feel good as new.
