i'm decorating my back yard, which has a pool, with fencing around it, and was interested in getting cute lights to put around it with tiki torches, etc. the only problem is that we do not have more than one plug in which is closest to the house..any lights that we could possibly connect to it would have to go through the pool. is there such thing as a portable plug-in device in which you could plug something into without having to make another outlet? if not do you have any other ideas to help me out? thank you so much!

Solar powered Malibu lighting should do the trick for you. You can buy 10 of them of about $60 bucks at home depot. They are design to go in the ground but you can fasten them to the fence as well and they work great. No wires at all.

Before you do anything dealing with electrical outlets around a pool, make certain the outlet is grounded. Depending on how many lights and where you want to install them, solar lights are a good idea if you're just looking for mood lighting. You don't need an outlet to power them, but you do give up the brightness of good lighting especially around the pool. You might think of running low voltage wiring for lighting around the bottom of the fence. The wire is small , weather proof, and can be put in the ground, which would solve your problem about power. The transfer plugs into the lower part of your outlet, then the wires come off the bottom to anywhere you want to run the wire for lights. Check at a good hardware store, with someone who knows what they're talking about, and can show you examples of what you can do. Don't get yourself involved with a plug strip that has alot of outlets, even weatherproof, you're asking for problems. You might want to get a cost to run a grounded electrical circuit from your house to the area where you want lighting. You need to think of safety before cost around a pool area.

Will it burn up the motor in a 115v portable washing machine unit by plugging it into a 220v outlet instead of 110V?
