Well, aside from the obvious (being exhausting), people also close their eyes after to enjoy it to the fullest, and to relax a little bit, and end up unknowingly falling asleep. I guess that's why it takes place in bed!

after sex normally both partners have used alot of energy and also has caused a wonderful relaxed situation. Its a chemical release in the bodies which makes you tired. not sure the chemical but sex is the best stress relief because it get blood flowing throughout the body. natural detox of all that is bad. or you just over worked yourself and got the job done.

Sex requires physical activity just like exercise. It burns out calories and so is exhausting. Aside from these, it is a stress releasing activity that often relaxes the body especially after multiple climaxes. So all these factors induce one to sleep restfully....and then prepare for another round. :)

cos its tiring especially after a good orgasm.women dont feel more alert as said above i could sleep for hours after it.i think women fall asleep so the sperm can safetly go on its journey to the egg in reproduction and of course our bodies dont know we are using condoms or what ever so nature still takes over and relaxes you after sex

If you do it right, and for a decent amount of time, you begin to use a lot of energy.
To add on to that, if you're in the back seat of a car/truck/van, it gets pretty warm (foggy windows), and you begin to sweat, and all the warmth becomes very relaxing.
Then when you done, the finish (again, if you do it right, and long enough) feels so fantastic, that the ending itself is enough to put you to sleep upon the relaxing feeling alone.

Well for one the exhaustion (if you are doing it right) plus the hormones released are mean to relax you after orgasm/ejaculation so the combination of those two factors is why most people knock out after.
