When the dust settles it is the 30/06. Wide range of fodder available; you can buy lots of military ball for target and plinking shooting; it puts anything on the north american continent down; it is tried and proven and a wheel that does not have to be reinvented. I also like the 8mm Mauser round for the same reason. They are two calibers that in a hundred years have been duplicated time and time again but they are always there and they do the job.

257 Weatherby magazine. I even have had super outcomes and good sparkling kills with it. the section i stay in has means for long pictures and that's speedy and very flat capturing. I even have taken mountain goat, an exceedingly super ram, the two white-tail and mule-deer, and introduced the pinnacle off many grouse with it. i used a 243 for years and took my first deer with one 35 years in the past as nicely as a 25-06 and there is not any longer something incorrect with the two however the 257 is my visit rifle except i'm out for elk or moose then it relatively is the 300 Weatherby or Winchester. there are countless calibres that are super for deer yet it relatively is my decision.

I have taken my Sako .300 Winchester Magnum rifle many places in the USA and Canada. It has longer range than most shells, and it is powerful enough for all game in North America. I can buy shells for it anywhere I go, too. In Canada, I couldn't find cartridges for my Weatherby rifles, but several places carried .300WM. If I have a 500 yard shot at an elk in Quebec, my .300 WM is best. For Africa, I have a .460 Weatherby Magnum, but I use the .300 much more.

My vote goes for .308 and .30-06. Either one will work for anything on this continent, when loaded properly. If I'm gonna make a shot past 600 yards, though, the .308 is proven to work better. Ammo can be had for both EVERYWHERE.

I like either .270 or .308. I have shot quite a few other calibers, but prefer those two for some reason. I haven't hunted for anything that either one couldn't bring down. They aren't that bad on the recoil, and they have all the range I need to make a good shot. I have shot my .270 out to 700 yards playing, but I wouldn't do that on hunt, but it's nice to know that if I ever need, I can dial it out that far. My .308 I have shot out to 900 yards, but I have a very good scope on it. If you don't know how to dial your scope to make shots out that far, then don't try it. I wouldn't recommend making shots like that in hunting conditions anyway. I just do it to play. But that pretty well sums it up.

7mm Mauser. 115 years since its introduction, it's still about perfect for deer-sized game. Quiet, unassuming, and easy to shoot, it's killed every kind of game that can be killed with a rifle. It's also easy to work with on the reloading bench.
It's also the inspiration for the 30-06 cartridge, and there's tons of history in it.

My two favorites are 308 and 30-06 because they are easy to get and can handle almost anything even Africa hunting.

I like a .270 because it has quiet a bit of knock down power and the balistics are great. There is not alot of drop but still alot of pop.

.300 Win Mag.

It can be used for virtually any game here in the states, has a plethora of reloading data for it, will easily shoot accurately out to 1000yds + and doesnt have so much recoil you cant shoot more than just a few rounds in a sitting.
