When it comes to apostasy, people want to scream that it's the RELIGION of Islam that says to kill apostates even though it's pure culture and man made shariah. When muslims try to point out the fact that no matter what any hadith says, the Quran says to leave them alone and not to touch them, the haters go further trying to say that muslims follow culture, tradition, and hadith above Quran (true muslims will not). In Islam, it's a fact that you may not kill apostates. So why do Christians claim there is no such thing in the bible when this very verse proves it?

. neither shall thine eye pity him (the apostate), neither shalt thou spare him, neither shalt thou conceal him: "But thou shalt SURELY KILL HIM: thine hand shall be first upon him TO PUT HIM TO DEATH . . .DEUTERONOMY I 3 -8 9

Why when the Quran says to leave them alone do they work so hard to say it does, even though it doesn't, when the bible has the actual words?

It may surprise you to know that the Q'Ran and The Bible have a lot of similar passages, especially in the Old Testament portion. Both are written from a middle eastern stand point, and both faiths claim a certain point of history together. The split comes with the births of Israel and Ishmael. Before that, they both claim the same history and holy writings. It may surprise some, as well to know that the Old Testament is not placed in order of Chronology. The Pentateuch (or the first 5 books of the OT) are not the oldest writings. There are many others that are older, particularly among the major and minor prophet books. Job is considered by many to be the oldest book in the scripture at approximately 5000 years of age.

As to the scripture you mentioned, it seems that it is taken out of context of the story it is written within. When interpreting scripture from ANY religion, you must take passages within the context of what is written. Otherwise, scriptures can be taken and twisted to back up any viewpoint that a person wants to hold. Instead of a person changing to fit the scripture, the person twists the meaning of the scripture to fit their desires...

Hope this helps...

Some of the biggest problems on this planet right now 9and for centuries past) revolve primarily around the inability for two major religions to accept that they are different and have every right to be.

If the haters would just stop hating, and the believers would just quietly believe, and everyone would just stop trying to shove their own take on things down the other side's throat at every opportunity, the world would be a far better place.

If any other thing in this world had caused so much pain, death, hatred and violence, it would have been abolished by now, yet religions have been allowed to continue, nay, prosper. Why? Because at its very core, its intentions are for love, peace and understanding. That's Christianity AND Islam. The problems arise when PEOPLE try and use it for their own means, or to satisfy their own egos.

And this answer, by the way, is coming from a devout Atheist. I don't accept there is a God, but I accept your rights to believe there is. If you religious people could just allow each other to do the same with your individual beliefs, there'd be a lot more of you left alive now.

Imagine that..... an Atheist preaching religious tolerance. Novel, huh? :)

Peace to you all

I have pointed out this verse before and you have a very valid point. My question with the verse is that I have not met a Christian who follows the instructions of this verse so why can't some Christians, particularly the one's who hate Islam, see that like the Bible the Quran is to be read with an open mind and not be taken literally? Both books are filled with parables and analogies.

To answer your question, I don't believe it is a matter of confusing the Books as it is a matter of seeking out differences between the Books, differences that would pit the to beliefs against each other (neither Religion condones such practices).

Peace

Ignorant applies here also . . . you take an old testament command that was given only to the Hebrew, and is not valid today . . . and side step the Muslim Fascists who are "raping the Religion of Islam" and fighting a World War in the name of the Quran . . . and try to sound all 'smart' about it at the same time!

Wow . . . talk about taking something out of context ! . . . you blame the Bible for throat slitting Islamics?

The context is about prophets preaching the worship of false gods and also (even) your own brother (or blood relative) if they try to lead you to worship false gods . . . they were to be put to death.

This is most likely the part of the law they sited to justify the Crucifixion of Jesus . . .

this "law" has been fulfilled through Jesus and we are now under the new "law" of Grace. (Read Romans)

It is a new covenant!

New!

not the old . . .

You answered the question yourself they are ignorant. Nor do they care to know the truth.

Most non Muslims have never read the Quran. And 90% of the ones who quote it have ever seen it, they just see handouts with small snipets of various writings they think is the Quran. Not caring they accept that and moving onto bashing.

Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in God and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve . 2:16

Some people confuse the Quran with the Bible because the Quran borrowed very heavily from the Bible. The Quran contains many biblical stories. Although they are distorted, they are still recognizable.

If there's no compulsion in religion why are countries like Libya, Saudi and Afghanistan 98% mohammedan ? You must know if, you are honest, that if I went and tried to preach the gospel in Saudi I'd by arrested, and probably a lot worse, especially if no Western media knew what was going on. Also the Koran does say that is blessed to kill an apostate.

I admit that I am ignorant about the Quran. I've barely had enought time to work out my own beliefs. Since I've chosen atheism, I have not felt the need to study other world religions yet, but I will in time.

Maybe because Muslims are the focus of most of the violence in today's news. I watched CNN's "The War Within" and the Radical Muslims aren't helping you when they themselves are saying the Quran calls for death and destruction
