The Barna Group is a conservative Evangelical Christian polling organization that keeps statistics on religion. They recently completed a survey on atheists.

I think they missed a couple things. First of all, if atheists make more money, I haven't seen it among my friends. (Maybe I should make them buy me more stuff! :-) Secondly, if atheists are as disengaged from mainstream political parties as they say, it could be because both main parties are trying to appeal to people of faith.

Also, isn' t that graphic (a little church in rifle cross hairs) really provocative? I've *never* seen an atheist site or newsletter use a graphic like that, ever. Yet Christians think they can use it for atheists. Why not a pansy or Flying Spaghetti Monster? Could it be because that wouldn't literally demonize atheists?

I liked the bit about atheists being more likely to be college graduates. When a faith is threatened by education and the individual's thirst for knowledge, that faith is in deep trouble. And I'm sure that there's plenty of atheists involved in mainstream politics, they just realise that it'd be political suicide to "come out" as such.

When people do surveys or polls, they usually ask a crowd that is favorable to their agenda. Its just another form of propaganda, or a way to manipulate the masses. The Government does it all the time, nothing new.

This looks fasinating, if very biased. Thanks for the link.

Yeah, having the Barna group do a study on Atheists is like having Fox News do a study on why CNN is less biased...

Obviously the photo was a play with the title of the piece.
Poor taste, I think.
Barna is a very good organization, and accurate.
