A bit of rationality or balance...

Most churches these days make me feel most welcome when I can get out of there as quickly as possible and go about my life.

I am not fond of ministers in thousand dollar suits, churches with building programs bought with taxpayer dollars when those dollars should aimed at charitable causes, and pompous, smug churchgoers convinced that their way is the only way and that War will pave the way to Heaven.

I want a church where everyone is welcome, Gays, felons, the homeless, the divorced mother. I want a church where the monies collected go to help the underprivileged, the most vulnerable, the hungry.

Until I find it, I will pray in a closet....as Jesus recommended...and do what I can to help others on my own.

playing songs I have actually heard of AND having the place NOT look like the set of a tv evangelist. Oh one more thing- a preacher who can give a sermon in jeans and a regular shirt. I dont need anything fancy, I want a preacher who has been down the road of wickedness because thats the man (or woman) I am likely to believe, and I want to be able to see a reasonable looking cross, and hymn books for the songs I dont know.

If it's a true church filled with the Holy Spirit that would be my first impression. If the church has the Holy Spirit then there in loving people in the church and I am sure they would greet you with love and kindness.

If I could get out of there without anyone talking to me. Trust me, if I want to know more, I'll ask. Otherwise, please leave me alone.

I'd only be there because a friend asked me to go, not out of personal interest (in a Christian church, that is).

people being willing to talk to me if I had questions but not actively trying to convert me. I think just allowing me to watch and observe with out having to drill me with questions would also help a lot.
