For some there is that feeble attempt at claiming superior knowledge and intelligence. It may not be a violent crusade, but the movement to disallow any religious concepts is indeed a "crusade." This country was founded on the rights of religious freedom, and no one should be allowed to take that freedom away from the people.

I find it odd that you would say we force it on others. I find that people are often trying push their religion on atheists.
For instance about a month ago I saw this girl from my school walking out of a church. When she saw me walk by she yelled at me to come in and accept the lord Jesus into my heart. I ignored her, apparently that was a mistake... She went back inside and then came out and dumped "holy" water on me.
She apologized and said she simply could not watch me lead my way down a path of eternal damnation.
That seems sort pushy if you ask me.

I'm an atheist and I don't try to force it to anyone, I guess that there could be some that are doing it but I think that not as many as the religions have doing that, some people try to change the people to the way they think no matter what it is

raynbeau we probably as you say "shove it in your face" is because Christians want people to experience God's love and mercy just as we have had the experience. As a Christian sitting here reading all of these statements by you Athiests my heart goes out to you. Whether you want to believe it or not their is a day of judgement coming. and whether you want to believe it or not there is such a place called hell. but unfortunately once you find out that there is such an aweful place it will be too late. Hell is real and the greatest deception that the devil has ever played is that hell is not a real place and there is no such thing as hell. I just pray that you will realize this before it is too late and spend eternity separated from God and his love.

On this forum I think we are for the conversation and the debate.
In daily life as in becoming more active politically,it is because we are tired of having your religion shoved down our throat. politicians are able to be elected on moral issues that have nothing to do with running the country( gay rights, abortion) or make laws that would trample our rights( prayer and creationism in public schools, commandments in court) or cost us tax dollars, religious displays on public land.
Why are you asking the only reason to be on this site is to discuss and argue with others who don't believe the same things you do.

You have a bizarre definition of "force". Force is when violence is used or laws are passed to ensure conformity with certain opinions.
Atheistic governments have sometimes used force against religion -- e.g. the Chinese in Tibet. However there are far, far more examples in history of violence and repression used in the name of religion. In fact most history IS the history of religious violence and persecution.

Atheists do not force atheism on others.
They do, however, present facts that theists keep trying very hard to ignore and overlook.
We'd be happy if we were left alone. Alas, theists seem intent on passing laws with the intent of validating their pet superstitions. That's what gets us riled up.

Well, it's not quite as bad as a religious crusade, but I get your point. Atheists cry about being proselytized by Christians, but they do sound almost like they are proselytizing themselves at times, especially here on Answers.
Cool it, guys!

I think most atheists simply disbelieve privately, just as most believers follow their own traditions without inflicting them on others. There are a small, but vocal, number of people on either side of the divide who feel the need to proselytize.

From what I understand there is no athiest "crusade" other than the fact that they're out to prove there is no god.
But now the religious Christian crusades has brought more bloodshed and violence throughout history than any other cause. Proven fact..
