I posted a question about half an hour ago about what I should do with my 18month old, she has a high temperature. I gave her some calpol around the time I posted the last question and I have just re-taken her temp now and it has gone down to 102.2, it was higher. I keep sponging her down but she gets very aggitated when I do it leading to her crying an awful lot and so her temp goes up. She is wearing nothing but her nappy and a baby vest. She keeps drifting off to sleep and then waking up crying before falling asleep again. Her breathing is very fast as though it is a little difficult for her to breathe and she cant be bothered to do anything. She is drinking little fluids but I am managing to get some down her. She has just eaten a little bit of weetabix with water, not milk. I hope this clears a few things up about how I was treating her.

To be safe, I'd take her to the hospital now.

It sounds like she might have pneumonia and to be safe, I'd take her to the hospital.

A high fever especially in a baby is a warning that something is wrong. You said that her breathing is fast, she sleeps a lot, and is drinking very little. You should call her doctor as soon as possible. Keep sponging her to keep the fever down.

Let see if I were you I would take her to the DR's and if you cant get her in there then I would take her to the ER she needs to be seen by someone that knows what to do for a sick child. I have four kids and if they run a fever over 102.0 and I give them something for it and it is not gone down I take them in right a way. A fever is nothing to mess around with, when its comes to babies that cant tell you what hurts or whats wrong with them. Good luck hun and I hope the baby feels better soon. Take care.

give her some baby Tylenol. That is what the hospital told me to do then you should call your doctor bc she is having difficulty breathing. If they don't open soon then take her to the hospital. If it was just her temp I wouldn't worry about it to much but since you said she can't breath then I would worry.Make sure what she is wearing is light. Make sure her diaper is clean. You might also want to try taking a wet wash cloth to her and wipe her face and off and try rocking her to sleep.

With a temp that high and also the fact that she is breathing fast and drifting off to sleep the only one suggestion i will give you is get her on to the hospital. If hospital not possible ring a dr and get them to come out.

I don't want to scare you , but get her to the hospital, my duaghter got a nasty stomach virus a few months ago, and she was acting like this, we took her to the hospital and they needed to give her an IV because whe is dehydrated. She was drinking a bit too, but it was not enough. The fact that she keeps falling asleep and that she is breathing funny means she is dehydrated. Please take her now.

Try putting a cold towel under her armpitts and between her legs. That will bring her temp down fast. My mother watches babies for a living and has had the same problem.

The way you describe her breathing, she needs medical attention. It sounds like dehydration and that is very serious. High fever can make an adult cry, so I can imagine your baby is miserable. Please take her to the doctor right away don't let her suffer like that

TAKE HER TO THE ER NOW! DONT WAIT. ANYTIME YOUR CHILD HAS DIFFICULTLY BREATHING THAT IS NOT GOOD. GO NOW! YES YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT BUT AT LEAST YOU HAVE A DOCTOR SEE YOUR BABY AND CAN BE TREATED.
