The root of all religion is to give false hope, a sense of inner peace. Yeah sure I probaly will get bashed for saying this but really religion is like the highest reason why people kill each other.

Go to anywhere in the world even in the USA and say that the antichrist loves you to some fanatic catholic or whatever religion and see if they dont try to hit you in the face.

Go to other parts of the world to muslim countries and you lose your head. I am not saying that religion is bad some people do find themselves and what not but personally I think that it is A source of evil.

You will know what I mean when people respond to my opinion in a hostile way.

if you really think about it is fairly complicated, because the theory has to explain fundamentals of any religion.
One idea is that we have evolved to find causal relationships for about anything. In general false negatives (there not lion behind this bush - if there is one) are much more dangerous than false positives (there is a lion - if there isn't) and consequently we want to find causal relationships even if there aren't any (if I don't step on those lines on the sidewalk then something good will happen).
Even if there is no detectable causal relationship between events, we invent a satisfactory ones which will serve until we find a better one. Postulating an unseen power seems to do very well to explain a wide range of observed effects.

Man's curiosity, fear and desire for knowledge. All the world's religions can be chased back to mythical models designed to assist man to come to terms with himself, his world and his future. So, in a word the answer to your question is, yourself and your nature. IPerhaps you next question should be, What is truth? but then Pontius Pilate asked that one over two thousand years ago. l

The brother of Jesus had this to say of religion: "Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world". James 1:27................not too intimidating and yet a stumbling block for many.

Indoctrination. Fear and ignorance might cause a delusion, but it's only through the indoctrination of children that it becomes a religion.

God is the root of religion. Religions are based, originally, on the revealed word of God to mankind. Much of religion ends up being interpretations of God's word for their own time and culture, but religious belief, in the first place, originated with God revealing himself to people.
