My son is 17months, I have just noticed he has a vertical line, but feels like a bump, which starts at the bridge of his nose and finishes where his soft spot at the top of his head would be. Should i be concerned? Or am i just being paranoid that it could be something really bad?

Calm down, some children do have this, but do call your doctor and ask about it. Some children do ahve a problem with the plates of the skull not growing properly but this is usually caught at a few months of age. Do you know if he hit his forehead on anything. He may have fallen while toddling around. It sounds like that may have happened. Check with your doctor but don't get too upset.

This is a normal variant. You are feeling the metopic suture, the junction where the right and left frontal bones come together. This suture line is more prominent in a few individuals like your son. It generally has no adverse implication.

The one exception is early closure of the suture that causes the face to assume an overly triangular shape. If you are concerned, discuss it with your pediatrician.
