I have been trying very hard to eat right and stick to an exercise plan. My last demon is the sugar I put in my coffee every morning. I have heard that ingesting sugar straight can hinder your metabolism. While I am noticing a difference in my body from exercise, I have yet to lose any real pounds. Is giving up the sugar going to help make a difference? Thanks for your input!

You are noticing a difference in your body because exercising tones the muscles up...muscle weighs more than fat. I suppose a teaspoon of sugar will eventually make a minute difference with your body weight if you cut down on other sugars that you eat in a day. Keep up the good work...once the muscle is built up and the body has gotten to the machine that you are looking for...the weight may diminish. Good luck with it.

Well, personally I think giving up the coffee all together may help with your weight loss goals. Caffeine is a stimulant that acts like a quick metabolism booster in the morning, but can often leave people feeling hungry and once the caffeine wears off the metabolism slows back down to normal. So, basically you consumed more calories then you needed just because of the caffeine in the coffee.

The coffee itself has calories, the sugar has calories. The idea of weight loss is to consume less calories then you burn.

I know it might be difficult to give up the morning coffee, but if it's weight loss you are seeking it might be a solution. If you can't give it up, you could simply try Splenda to see if it works.

Just remember, everything in moderation.

I have never been fat and I eat a lot of sugar. I do notice though that when i begin to eat too much oil and fat in my diet I do start to gain some weight. I just stop with the greasy stuff and back to normal. I am very active and I am 68 now.

I sure like sugar in my coffee in the morning to get me going.

Most of us eat out of habit more than out of hunger. Yes you feel hungry at certain times a day because that is when you normally eat. Try and eliminate the snacks one at a time.

I rarely snack and most of the time now eat only twice a day. Younger people should eat three times but no more than that.

Why don't you substitute Splenda or one of the other brands for the sugar that you are using? There are no calories, no cholesterol, etc. I use it all the time. It is delicious. You can't tell the difference. You use the same amount of Splenda as you do sugar. It is very light in weight. And it works great.

Splenda is made from sugar.
