It's summer so perhaps roast leg of lamb, or lamb chops, mint sauce or redcurrant jelly, new potatoes, baby carrots and fresh peas followed by summer pudding * with thick cream.
*In essence you make a mould - line a bowl with slices of good bread soaked in the juice of your berries, fill your bowl with a mix of any summer berries: black currants, raspberries, red currants, strawberries and some sugar, chop berries a bit if large, make a lid of more bread, weight it down and chill in fridge overnight - carefully turn out onto plate: any web search will pull up the recipe

Good luck with your meal,
A full on Sunday dinner is probably the best thing to go for with ALL the trimmings making the Mash potato with plenty of Butter in with it(as the American mash potato is brilliant).
I would suggest is you make a meal for 8 people as everything is much bigger over there including the portions

Well since I am from the US, if I were visiting England for the first time I would like to enjoy a traditional English dinner such as a beef roast or roasted chicken with all the sides such as Yorkshire pudding and roasted vegetables. I have always wanted to try sticky toffee pudding since I can't find it here in the US. Don't get KFC or McDonald's as others have suggested since all Americans don't like fast food (I don't).

firstly - most americans are adventurous to a large degree when it comes to food - and in england, just as in any other country each region has a dish or two (be they mains or sides or sweets) that they are known for. while many in the u.k. enjoy a good curry or other indian cusine, it is not anywhere near as widely popular in the u.s. (especially with people from more rural areas) - so i would check with your guest to see if they have any preferences or adversions to certain types of ethnic foods or if they have any dietary restrictions (they could have food allergies or be vegan). oddly enough the things i liked that you don't typically find served in the u.s. are mushy peas and crackling (not necessarily together!). what they will appreciate them most is that you made a sepcial effort for them - simple good food with great company is the best thing you can give them to welcome them to the u.k.

i would have said a roast, but as so many people have said it,how about a meal that is particular to the area you live in?
use ingredients that they may not be accustomed to,and make a dessert that is typically British. how about your favourite meal as a child?.
