Well, I wouldn't shudder over it, but yes, if you're concerned about the truth, you wind up an atheist. If you're more concerned about tradition, you remain a believer.
=============
LMFAO at the dummy below who thinks that atheists believe that they are god. Where do you people get this stuff?
=============
Brian (respectfully), you choose an answer that simply is not true. There is no god. That's not "truth", it's truth (no need for the scare quotes). There are truths and there are falsehoods, and they're absolute.
Now, it's fine if you choose to go that way, but that doesn't change the fact that you've chosen to go along with what you were told rather than choosing to accept the truth. Think about it.

I got news for you, hun. God has already abandon our country because he was never here to begin with. That's some of the worst BS I have heard on here in a while. Yes, Stalin and Hitler were atheists but that doesn't mean that all atheists are going to grow up and become crazy dictators. 'Immorality' is a term that has many definitions as to what exactly it is and what causes it. Telling children fairy tales is immoral to me. What gets me pissed off is the idea that you think you are so much better than other people. You aren't anything more or less than me, flesh and bones so get over yourself. If God exists and was going to get pissed off at America I think he would have done it by now. If God was smiling when we freed the slaves then why does he blatantly ok slavery in the Bible on multiple occasions? So either the Bible is lying about God liking slaves or you are. I personally think your both full of crap. God was smiling down when we gave the Native Americans the crappy and unwanted lands of our country and kept the good stuff to ourselves? Ha. I doubt the natives see it that way. And there is nothing wrong with being gay! You can think that crap all day long but what you're doing is suppressing the rights of a whole group of people who are some of the nicest and most caring people out there. I have confidence that just like with the past black struggles we will be able to pull out of this hatred and darkness and stop suppressing peoples rights in EVERY state. Yes, you republican idiot, that includes Texas.

So atheism is worse than trouble and even makes you shudder? My oh my, aren't we the tolerant one.
I don't believe in a god or gods but I am not in trouble :-)
I lead a meaningful life. I respect other views, try to help others as much as possible and devote 20 hours a week to volunteer work alongside my fulltime job.
I have a full set of morals and values that I feel internally so I have no problems living by them.
So I'd say: disagree.

I disagree with the shudder, being an atheist. I'm on the fence over the rest of it.
On one hand, yes - if you search for answers, you're going to end up questioning your belief system. If the unknown scares you, maybe best not to do it.
However, it doesn't necessarily lead to trouble. I've never purposely hurt anyone, I've never taken drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke anymore, I don't really do anything bad ... but I like to think that my beliefs are based on solid facts and that they're logical.
Am I in trouble?

Why do atheist assume that Christians believe what we believe based on tradition.
Life put before us all some variables, I came up with a different answer. Why can't they be the end if it.
You have your "truth". You believe that the earth was just formed and the cosmic balance that exists was all completely random. It's also random that we were all born on the only planet in the galaxy that can house human life without life support. This is all chance to you.
I choose to disagree. I found a different answer to the meaning of life and where it came from. I also believe that Jesus died for my sins and came back from the grave so that my sins can be forgiven.
When I pray I feel a connection to God and I have seen my prayers answered.
Now I don't expect you to read what I just said and just change, but I wish you'd think about it.

The quest for truth is another way to get to god, getting your facts straight can only broaden your mind, whether it leads to atheism depends upon your faith in religion and god. People think that realization of truth is kinda bad , but it's not. God would never want you to blindly follow religion, he would want you to be inquisitive. In ancient India there was a university dedicated to giving education related to religion and everyday philsophy because in ancient india it was said that truth and knowledge are the only ways of reaching god.

I once had a boss ask me a question and I responded, "let's take a look at the facts," to which he responded "[F] your [F]ing FACTS!!"
So I agree. And agnosticsm leaves room for facts, btw.

It is interesting to find that so many people attribute the evil in the world as evidence that there is no God. The evil in the world is evidence that people choose to have no God. No God no Peace. Know God, know Peace.
