Hello, my cat is around 10 months old and she got pregnant out of the blue, we didn't intent for her to get pregnant, she was due to get spayed but due to ill health in the family it was totally forgotten about. We think she is in her last week, we can feel the kittens kicking quite often and she eating alot, colostrum is also visible on her nipples, also her stomach has hardened alot in the past few days. Seems like we have been waiting ages, does anybody know if she is close to her labour or does she still have time to go. Thanks.

She's going to have them any time now, I'd say in the next couple of days. Try not worry too much. Just keep an eye on her and make sure she has a warm safe place to have them. With her being young it's a good idea to try to be there when she does have them in case she doesn't know what to do or has complications. ( Not likely but better safe than sorry) Don't try to help unless she is in real trouble. That may upset her. Just be nearby where you can watch. If something does go wrong have your vets number handy. On the off chance a kitten gets stuck, don't try to help her yourself, get her to the vet. Most deliveries go smoothly but be aware. Good luck and enjoy your new family members!

My cat surprised us all and had kittens 17 days ago, while I was in the hospital and she had them in the tumble dryer! I suggest you let her nest as this will be natural to her, she'll have the kittens when she's ready. I checked with my vets and as long as mum and kittens seem healthy and feeding well etc, there is no need for them to see a vet after birth. My cat has done fine and she's only 16 months old, and this is her second litter (her first was before I had her) I planned to get her spayed, but then she had the kittens so now I'm waiting for her to wean them and the kittens to go before I have her spayed and microchipped.

A cat is usually pregnant for around 9-10 weeks. It sounds like she is close to labour now if you can feel them kicking. You can tell when she is heavily pregnant as she will be eating and sleeping a lot and 'waddles' when she walks. Make sure your cat gets plenty to eat and drink and start to keep her in doors now. Get a box and put in something cosy like an old jumper that belongs to you (she would feel safer if she could smell you on it) and place it somewhere quiet like under the bed or in the corner of a bedroom. Get your cat used to the box and when she goes into labour, she should hopefully give birth in the box. This makes things so easy as once kittens are born, you don't have to worry about moving them and your cat wont get upset because they do not like the kittens being moved or touched in the first few weeks.

Hello, my cat is just over a year old and this happened to us too! It seems like we've been waiting forever! We took her to the vets last week - it only cost £15 - £20 for her to be checked over! They are due andy day now - but he said she was fine - apparnetly they only have small litters on thier first litter but he thinks she's going to have 7 or 8! Has your cat started nesting yet? Make up a quiet place for her to go and have the kittens where she feels safe, make sure its warm and comfortable and she has pleanty of clean water, seperate her from other animals. You shoud be feeding her on kitten food. Cats supposedlly don't show intill the last 3 weeks of pregnancy but ours ha a belly on her for about a month now. YOu will find she sleeps alot more, you need to feed her more often and keep her indoors! Yu need to worm her too - now i would say was the best time! The vet told me to leave her too it when she's having them and thier usually ok. obviously to ring him if theirs any problems. Ask a friend if they have ever had any experiance with new born kittens just to put your mind at ease and to be there with you. Good luck!
I would reccomend taking her to the vet though - they can invoice you and you can pay them at a later date - more to make sure that your cats ok rather than the kittens!

those babies will be here very soon. if you want to help your cat feel better lay old towels around the house. if you're starting to lose track of her or she keeps hiding, shes "nesting". this is all perfectly natural. make sure that there is a place where her kittens will be protected. a quiet place in the kitchen or bathroom are best. try emptying space on shelves or in little corners and putting towels down. the sooner shes comfortable the sooner she'll be ready to have them. if you have children or other pets, make them give her space. and after the kittens come put them in a box somewhere hidden away from human hands. or before you know it all the kittens will be hidden by the mom. also there is no need to go to a vet for the birth. you can do it at home, just have plenty of water and towels on hand. and a bucket for the weak stomachs.

Everyone else seems to have answered your question well enough. I just wanted to comment to you and to all of those people out there who's cats get pregnant unexpectedly that if you don't want the kittens many vets will perform a pregnant spay.
I know this is an unpopular and some would say disgusting practice but if you think taking your cat to the vet for a check up during her pregnancy is expensive how on earth are you going to afford to feed anywhere up to 10 kittens, as well as get all of their shots and worm them and house them, what you need to bottle raise some of them?
Then what will happen to those kittens? Will they go to a pet shop to be bought by an equally irreponsible person only to have more kittens? Or will they end up at a kill shelter to be put down?

i would say that if colostrum can be seen she should be having these little bundles within the next couple of days. the kittens sound like they are growing well and are healthy with all the movement you can see. someone is bound to say something about you not having her spayed but don't worry. you can get her done as soon as the kittens have left which will be around 8 weeks. best wishes to you and i hope you enjoy these lovely bundles of joy. its amazing watching how quickly they develop. remember your cat will still want to eat a lot when she is feeding them too. she have them soon so the waiting is nearly over.

You will not be able to get her spayed until the kittens are weaned you must be aware that she could become pregant again straight away so in my view she should be kept inside until you have her spayed. As a responsible cat owner it is up to us to ensure the welfare of our animals it is cruel to allow a female cat to keep giving birth. she must be spayed asap families are important yes, but your cats life should be just as important I wonder why you havent had here spayed before kitens can be spayed from SIX months you have neglected the matter for FOUR months in my view not very responsible.. If it is a matter of cost there are various charities that can help you RSPCA, PDSA, BLUE CROSS etc. there are NO excuses only iresponsible ownership

SHE SHOULD BE HAVING TEHM WITHIN THE WEEK.
SEH SHOLD BE CONFINED WHEN YOU AREN'T THERE WITH HER. A CAT GIVING BIRTH IS VERY MESSY.
EACHKITTEN HAS IT'S OWN WATER SAC AND PLACENTA TEHRE IS SOME BLEEDING.
CATS LIKE TO PICK THNGS LIKE THE CLOSET OR ON TOP OF TEH BED ANYTING IN TEH WAY WILL PRETTY MUCH BE RUINED.
SET UP AN AREA YOU EANT HER TO BE IN AND KEEP HER IN TEHRE.
THE KITTENS CAN START WEANING AT 5 WEEKS. GET A GOOD KITTEN CHOW ( HARD FOOD) AND MOISTEN IT TO A SOUP LIKE CONSITENCY AND TEHN SLOWLY HICKEN IT AND TEHY SHOULD BE ON SOLID FOOD BY TEH TIME THEY ARE 7 WEEKS AND SHOULD GO TO A NEW HOME AT 8 WEEKS.
i WOULD SUGGEST WHEN THE KITTENS ARE 6 WEEKS CALL TEH VET AND SET UP THE SPAY FOR 2 WEEKS.
GOOD LUCK

Shes probably fine - cat pregnancies take between 60 and 65 days and in extreme cases can be a week longer. Just leave her to be - provide her with a warm area in a quiet part of the house and a box in which she can have them and she will do the business well enough on her own.
