I can't answer the second one and won't try: My dad suffered from a "Schizophrenia and, or Alzheimer" condition. Since he was so ill at the time and there were no more doors to open we chose not to have him tested for either one.
I could tell from his frustration that he was suffering, he couldn't or wouldn't remember from one day to the next who we were.
I traveled fifteen hundred miles many times to visit with him and be with him as much as possible, only to have him not remember who I was.

This disease is so frustrating to those who have it. I hope when he passed on, it was peaceful. I know he was asleep, they had to keep him sedated, he wandered and roamed. He only wanted to go home, to his farm, it was so heartfelt.

They gave him drugs of course, they kept him sedated as I stated but, I know, he was there, somewhere trapped in there and wanted to come out.
Is it, as the doctors personal opinion is, the "body shutting down" I don't know, it's hard to believe some get it as early as fifty, some in old age, the "body shutting down" maybe she was just being nice to us.
