Hi,

I got my navel pierced on the 20th of March (which makes 2,5 months now) in a nicely ecquipped studio, everything sterile etc. However, the piercer guy did not make it as perfect as it should have been done. Hence, he took too much skin and now my piercing hole is too long(not sure if I can use this expression when it comes to piercings). It did not hurt at all, I was doing all the cleaning procedures as I should have, but all the rings I had were way too short, and my piercing was not receiving enough air, and space,so was not healing. This piercer guy told me that I can change my ring after 2 months, which I did,but still the barbell itself was too short for, which did not make me feel very comfortable. Now I bought longer barbel &my piercing seems to be healing a bit,but still when i m cleaning it some kinda whitish substance it inside of the hole. I know its normal during the healing process, but will it be ok afterwards? Please help, thanks!!!

Piercings take time, just be patient. It sounds like your belly button is just going through the normal healing process. Redness, swelling and a little discharge are normal but if the whitish fluid becomes pink or greenish and it is hot to the touch you should consult a piercer or a doctor. Make sure you're cleaning it with sea-salt water and an antibacterial soap in the shower. Pants or skirts worn over the piercing will irritate it and cause a longer healing time. All in all however, it sounds like your piercing will be totally fine :)

It's not a problem with the piercing, it was a problem with your jewelry being too small. Now that you have the proper length jewerly, you say it's healing fine, so that was the problem.

The whitish stuff is called lymph, it's totally normal through out the healing process (which can last up to a year). Make sure you keep the proper size jewelry in, do sea salt soaks and you will be fine.

Mine took about 7 months to heal completely. I still have a hard time putting back in after leaving the piercing out for a while and I got pierced over 4 years ago!

You should be ok.

I would see a piercer at a different shop who is more qualified. You are NEVER supposed to change your barbell that soon. You should be waiting at least 6 months (though in your case, it may have been for the better).

It will probably be ok, just look after it. Clean it with sea salt solution (1/4 teaspoon sea salt to a cup of water).

if you've now put a bar in that's the right length, it should heal better (piercing jewellery should generally be longer for the healing time anyway). they do come in different sizes - different bar lengths are widely available.

white stuff - absolutely normal for healing, just make sure you keep it clean with salt water soaks etc (nothing too strong) and it should carry on to heal fine

if the skin around your piercing has got a red shiny look to it and may be transparent looking then the reason its not healing is because your body is rejecting it and you best bet is to take it out before it leaves a bad scar.

the white stuff is normal. and it will be okay if its not rejecting.
